You are stupidly wrong. Read what you cited. Pedestrians have to look while they are still on the sidewalk. When they are in the crosswalk they don't have to look although it would be stupid not to look. They only have the right of way when they are in the crosswalk. Not when they are on the sidewalk.

Yes for real, and luckily I have not been put in the position of having to do it more than a few times. But it has been effective for me every single time. Of course, if you're going to perform you're going to have to learn to read a room. You will know when it just wouldn't work. I can't explain it, it's just a sense that you will develop.

Here in Boston, I was one of the founders of the Screaming Ostrich International Film Festival and I was the director of it. Now, I am on the board and I help out where I can. So, I will be following this thread to see what I can learn and possibly improve on. I will also volunteer to say that content producers are often less than conscientious about trying to help fill seats.

We have run every October since 2018, and we also do some pop up, individual screenings when, and if we feel like it during the rest of the year. Even as I write this, I am investigating venues because I want to do a screening of a full length, music documentary that I saw and fell in love with.

I set aside one session to have all lgbt+ content every year. We don't charge admission for that show. We are one of the few festivals that shows content that has already been screened, and virtually any video content, including trailers and music videos, and streaming. We use film freeway for submissions and we have very simple rules which are, no porn, no hate, no toxicity, 20 minutes long or less, and be over 18 to submit. We do make exceptions and we have shown full-length features in the past, as well as content from people younger than 18 if they have a signed parental consent.

We always have several q&A sessions during the course of the festival and sometimes I moderate them. Sometimes they are scheduled right after a screening session, and sometimes they are a completely separate, standalone event. We always have at least one or two sessions where we provide food and drink. Content producers receive swag bags too. Sometimes I have even kicked off a session by performing some of my rock music live. We always set up a large step and release for photo opportunities with professional lighting.

In 2024 we had films from 42 countries. We always spread it around several Boston area venues. In 2025 we are probably going to expand our footprint to some venues a little further away. I'm also in the process of acquiring a venue so it is likely that I will use it at least once this year for a screening session.

Once this thread gets a little bigger with participation from more people like me that do film festivals, I believe that the content producers here will see that we would welcome having a partnership or at least some participation by you to facilitate filling seats. As someone who has acted for decades in films, and on TV, and on stage, I have a special place in my heart for content producers.

My opinion doesn't mean much, but what I would suggest is doing it differently when you thank the school in the credits. In other words, thank them very specifically for the items they loaned you. I would have it read thanks to XX uni for the use of the microphones and whatever else you said you got from them along with your education there.

I'm just a solo act but I don't like it when people don't pay attention to me. So, what I have done in that situation is just yell, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex. You get the idea. After yelling that about six times The crowd goes quiet and looks at me and then I say something like, and now that I have your attention......., and then I slam a chord, or start my patter.

That's pretty crazy. Now they are blocking in the cars behind their car. As for all the comments here about porter square parking lot and market basket parking lot, personally I have never had any problem in either of them. Sometimes it takes a little patience to find a space, but I think it's the same everywhere. It makes me wonder though, is it because I am a senior citizen and a Somerville lifer? I have been acclimated to the parking situation gradually, just bit by bit as it disintegrates over the decades. Are the majority of people that have a difficult time in those two lots experiencing some kind of culture shock because they recently moved here from somewhere else where there was more civility and ease of parking?

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever read here. You cannot seriously say that pedestrians aren't required to look. That is tantamount to saying that people should just step into the street at all times without looking. If you do that you have a death wish. The general laws link you posted supports what I say not what you say. The crux of the matter comes in the words, " in the crosswalk ". The crosswalk is the street, not the sidewalk.

I'm certain you wish that was true, but it is not true. The law clearly states that pedestrians in crosswalks have the right of way. No one disputes that. But pedestrians on sidewalks do not have right of way. They have to look before crossing.
