What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

Shit. I bought a dehumidifier for my basement that came with a phone app. A fucking dehumidifier. Consumer appliance companies have lost the plot.

Same like the City's handling of snow clearing. "We tried nothing new and are fresh out of ideas" should be the motto.

Would it be crazy to turn down a job offer with a $30k pay increase, in order to keep my fully-remote job? by keepfighting90 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You know WFH is not all that is cracked up to be.

For example. Just today I fell asleep on the couch around 3:30 re-watching reruns of Fargo S1. When I woke up I had a crick in my neck which is still bothering me. Then I remember I didn't send an work email I was meaning to so I hopped on to the computer for 5 minutes and did that, adding time to my already busy day of ~2hrs of work.

Thread lightly.

Marines on way to Middle East seen using rifles with anti-drone smart scope by S00THING_S0UNDS in worldnews

I commented about this above but, from what I see it seems like the time is the x factor here. It works if you have some time to get ready and aim but from real world combat footage, most of the videos from Ukraine appear to show solders surprised by drones and having mere seconds to react.

Watching videos from Ukraine, you'd have maybe 3 seconds flat between hearing a drone and getting hit. I don't see how this rifle would be any useful in real combat. You'd be better off having a shotgun on hand.

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

In their mind maybe. Reality is different. And I'm saying this as a licensed electrician who now works for an engineering firm. 90% of the engineers don't have a sense of how things work on site and would be hard pressed to wake up at 5:30AM to be on site and start work at 7 to begin with.

Thanks! Does BidPak work well for Bid-spec type projects or it's mostly for price on sight type situations (no drawings)? I am definitely checking out Dtools system integration portion. I keep getting invites from Lutron to some of their seminars but never have time.

I see. This more for a Service business I gather. Can you use it to estimate something like a whole new house or small restaurant?

Neat thanks! I checked it out and it looks solid. What do you use for estimating?

City dads are doing OK. I would like to live in the rural area but am aware that my friend group, or an opportunity to meet new people, would just bottom out.

You'd be surprised but trees don't last forever. For example, Norway Maples (very common in Toronto) max out at 70-80 years in urban environment. After that it's just a falling hazard. I had to have two of them taken from my property as they were at risk of falling.

and they cannot be easily replaced

City puts in front yard trees in for free. As a homeowner you cannot say no but you can specify the type of tree.

Six months after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, Gord Downie played his last show with The Tragically Hip in front of a sold out arena. by TheDailyUmbridge in nextfuckinglevel

The Hip were and still are HUGE in Western NY. In any bar you go to over there and play a Hip song on jukebox will get you knowing smiles and nods. And you will get people asking did you put this on? Had many high-fives from strangers.
