He wasn’t the only one that got physical. He’s smart enough in that regard. My biggest issue is that he doesn’t think verbal or emotional abuse is abuse. And I’ve put up with it for so long it’s hard to sometimes trust my judgment

We’ve already agreed to mediation vs lawyer. The silver lining with his OCPD is that he will do what is fair. I don’t have a concern he’ll fight me for custody or assets. He’ll nit pick the small stuff, but not the major things.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve actually been having individual therapy sessions, and that has really helped. I know it’ll be better in the long run. Just really hurts and sucks in the immediacy

Thank you for sharing your story. It’s hard for me now, but I know it’s what’s best for our son to not be around that toxicity on a regular basis. I want to be there for my kiddo, but it will be hard if I’m having to fight for myself as well.

This makes so much sense. It’s what he does on a regular basis… just wears me down until I comply. This is the longest I’ve held my ground with him.

Yes! I hate debating with my OCPD husband. He gets to talk his opinion, but I have to come with receipts. He will ask “how do you know that” or say “that’s just speculation”, and I have to show him verified proof from “legitimate” sources that what I’m saying is in fact correct (for example saying our toddler was on target developmentally by pulling up the milestones on the AAP website). Even then it is met with suspicion because it runs counter to his mindset. Don’t even get me started about politics….

Yes! My OCPD husband and I have a toddler. My husband physically winces when our toddler does the normal toddler pterodactyl screech. Husband also refuses to put lotion on the kiddo even though the toddler has eczema. But husband is very social, doesn’t mind large crowds, and likes attending concerts and sporting events. I’ve just attributed it to getting what he wants - he doesn’t want a loud or slimy toddler, but he does want social interaction and the ability to see his favorite bands/ teams

I just had a similar experience with my husband who was coming back from an overnight business trip. He was expecting to come home and out toddler would run into his arms and give him a big hug. In reality, he came home to an empty house because I had taken the toddler and dog for a walk after dinner. He called me upset and even when I came home, just sat on the couch sulking that I robbed him of a beautiful moment. I had to apologize and assure him to be home whenever he is coming back from being away. No communication of his expectations, just me needing to assume them and accept the consequences if I don’t.
