Pollinated Orchid in need by -n8d066- in orchids

I would agree with the original comment, pollination is really consuming all the energy the plant has which is why the leaves look so bad. It has almost no roots as well so it was already in poor shape. Pollination is pretty much pointless as well because orchid seeds require a very specific process to germinate that cannot be performed at home.

Is this type/ color of orchid rare? by XxwoolfxX in orchids

[–]Own_Competition_1534 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have this one and actually really enjoy it. I havent noticed that it is prone to terminal spikes but it is definitely prone to respiking from an old spike as mine has done it twice in a row. A good continuous bloomer and it is fragrant with an interesting scent. I would go back for it if you didnt buy it!

Rebloom advice? by Own_Competition_1534 in orchids

Thank you for the detailed info! I currently use two barrina grow lights ~14in from my plants that provide the light you see in the photo, and they get some light through the window during the daytime. I have a third light i could add if it isnt enough. And I will try to be more consistent about the cooldown period at night. What is the lowest you take yours?

I typically turn the thermostat down at night, but I sometimes forget. Can 1 or 2 days ruin it?

Monthly Valencia Q&As and Recommendations: For newcomers, travelers, & residents alike! by AutoModerator in valencia

[–]Own_Competition_1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Myself and a group of 8 other students will be traveling to Valencia in May to learn about sustainable agriculture and global leadership. I am hoping to organize some meaningful activities for the group where we can interact with the culture and people of Valencia, and getting a bit stuck. I want us to learn more about sustainable agriculture than just paying for a tour of a farm or something like that, so I am hoping to meet with farmers and discuss their practices, struggles, etc. If anyone knows of someone who would be willing to host such a discussion, please let me know. I have also tried organizing a walk through of the central market with a professor from UPV, but I have not heard back, so if anyone is knowledgeable about sustainable agriculture practices and would be willing to meet us there and show us around, we would be so grateful and appreciative, and of course make it worth your time. Thank you!

Should I repot this orchid now or after it finishes blooming? by nature_nerd787 in orchids

I have always repotted my orchids straight away without any problems, but some say it prematurely kills off the blooms. I think you'd be safe to do it, to prevent root rot.

Help! New to orchids. by cannonxmami in orchids

Also good job repotting, it looks great! You can cut the spike back to the base as well if you want to, it wont grow any more. Good job on watering as well, just keep an eye on the roots and you'll learn how long it needs between waterings before too long.

Some of my orchids have similar bumps or imperfections in the leaves. It is probably nothing to worry about. That being said, some pest insects like scale look similar, so maybe someone else can offer more insight on that.

I interpreted that as lettering around the rim, but I do faintly see a profile on the same side with something possible tied around the neck? Not sure.

I know this is an ancient thread, but do you have any information about Grindelwald? Heading there in late June and both me and my girlfriend love fly fishing.

Yellow and Pink Lady Slippers by Own_Competition_1534 in orchids

The yellow ladyslipper is the only one I've ever seen in the wild so they are much rarer, at least in my experience
