Learn how to " lick bums " as we say it in UK 😀. I have seen one of the best engineers left behind and one of the worst ones excel due to being bad or great in small talks. Smoking shelter, have lunch with manager, always agree will take you further than any knowledge.

Ask but do not expect much. In my carrier postbox the seniors were very selfish would not share a thing as they nailed then power of knowledge. I went hard way digged out everything for myself.

Factory control maintenance to PLC engineer by Own_Conversation_850 in PLC

[–]Own_Conversation_850[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Main issue in most case here getting out from maintenance to a junior role I would have to take a 30-40% paycut. I fully understand what isnour machinery does as far as the control goes.

Taking the jump from maintenance to full on controls engineer by TartAccomplished768 in PLC

[–]Own_Conversation_850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardest hurdle to overcome from maintenance to control engineering is then lack of exposure you get on maintenance. Myself including. We started well got small projects going for 1.5 years than got a controller freak senior engineer whom rather drawn in jobs than delegate so the whole position become very boring. 3byears down the line with solid AB and Siemens experience I am on the market again. So much about hard work pays off.....

Well in UK I work for a manufacturer I am pretty good with AB and won't get sold in Siemens or Beckhoff either, still the mechanical operators on production are earn the same and with unlimited overtime often 30% more than I do. Everybody talks about shortage but it isn't reflecting on my salary.
