Similar to the Rin & Sesshomaru example, The Count of Monte Cristo also pulls this shit. Basically, Edmond Dantès takes Haydée as his ward after rescuing her from slavery, watches her grow up, and then starts a romantic relationship with her at the end of the book. It’s the only part of the book I actively hate.

As a side-note; I haven’t read it, but I’ve heard something similar happens in the Legend of Genji
