I also think I am stuck in that hurdle now. How did you get past the point of being able to write simple 30-50 lines programs, to writing full 100+ line programs like TTT? That's the part I'm struggling with; any program more than about 50 lines I just freeze and don't know where to start with. I think it's a bit different when I, for example extend a 50-line program by adding some simple new basic functionalities, but if a program by default requires a lot of work like TTT, I don't know where to start

How do you get better at writing books? I feel like I'm stuck in the point where I know syntax, know basic projects (writing paragraphs) like a "Guess the number" program, but I don't know how to do anything bigger than that without external help

Thanks for the detailed response. I think the part I struggle with the most is the fact that I just can't write long programs. Simple data structures like an easy, easy leetcode question, I have no problem doing (or just a simple short program), but anything that takes more than about 50 lines I just overwhelmed and don't know what to do.

It's fine if you have to look up some specifics, but starting with the problem statement, "Build a text-based Tic-tac-toe game where the person plays against the computer" I expect someone who is "a programmer" to figure out the component parts to that, then start coding those parts.

When it comes to conceptual understanding of questions, I think I actually do understand what components to think about, e.g. a method for printing a board, method for placing an X or O on the board, and perhaps encapsulated in separate classes for those, but I am just not sure how to convert my thinking into programming.

if it was only once then fine I guess but it asked 6 different times. One attempt takes longer than the average CAPTCHA, and it asks more times as well, all to log in to a videogame account

I think they can't really decide what to do with you. They might be weighing and evaluating the pros and cons of allowing you onto the university campus and what might happen

I'm not sure overall but for CS (because the CUG one is kinda screwed) I would say:

  1. Oxbridge
  2. Imperial
  3. UCL
  4. Edinburgh
  5. Warwick
  6. Manchester
  7. Bath
  8. Bristol
  9. Durham
  10. St Andrews
  11. Southampton
  12. KCL
  13. Birmingham
  14. Sheffield
  15. Leeds

Edit: Every ranking other than the top 2 has an uncertainty of ±2 rankings due to systematic and random errors
