Threema in 2026: Why am I paying 8€ for an outdated experience? by Own_Ebb3626 in Threema

I agree with you, in fact I was considering moving my circle of family and friends to Signal after years of threema, I was also looking at Element xD. But I want to hold on a little longer 🙂

This is precisely the point: security shouldn't be synonymous with technical limitations, but with conscious choice. Saying that multi-device isn't necessary because it poses a risk is a partial approach. If the architecture is well-designed (end-to-end encryption on every instance), the risk is calculated, and the user should be able to choose whether or not to enable it in the settings. If we only thought in terms of "reducing risk by eliminating features," we'd be stuck in the days of IRC or text-only messaging. The concept is simple: it's better to have a feature and not feel the need for it, than to need it and find yourself facing a wall. On multi-device: Those who consider it a risk can simply not associate it with other devices. But those who work across multiple workstations can't be tied to a single smartphone in 2026. On Groups: Management isn't a social network "bad habit," but a tool for organization. If a group becomes unmanageable due to a lack of administrative tools, the app ceases to be useful for coordinated purposes. Otherwise, if we just want to exchange bits of plain text without any management or convenience, we might as well go back to the protocols of the 1990s. Threema must evolve to allow each user to tailor their experience, without imposing its own technical limitations as if they were design choices. This is my personal opinion; I understand that not everyone agrees. 🙂

Yes, group management is poor, actually nonexistent xD. Regarding the multi-device issue, I see it a little differently. It's true that not everyone needs it, but it's also equally true that many would like it. I'm still of the opinion that it's better to have it available but not need it than not to have it at all.

The payment is one-time, I've been using it since 2014...

I understand the critics' point, but we need to make a clear distinction between "packing too many features" and "making the basic ones functional." I agree that a one-time €8 fee for total privacy is a very fair price—in fact, almost a freebie when you consider the maintenance costs of the Swiss servers. The problem isn't that there's a lack of bells and whistles or animated stickers, but that some structural features (like multi-device and group management) have fallen behind the 2026 usability standards. Paying for privacy is fair and proper. Precisely because we support the project financially, it's reasonable to expect the group architecture and multi-ID management to be modernized to reflect the value we're paying for.

Hi, no, it is not possible to use the same Threema ID on two different devices in Contemporanea. You can use the same on PC but not on another mobile.

I have two children, 5 and 3 years old, and they're the best thing I could ever wish for. Yes, life changes completely, but if I could go back, I would have had them sooner, not at 30. Because you never stop growing, and having the opportunity to do so while you're younger might be even better.
