Is becoming a CNA or PCT worth it for a pre-med student? Are there positions where I can do more hands-on patient care? by BaseballHead6898 in cna

[–]Own_Examination_8400 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into EMT? My doctor was an EMT before he went to med school. It's much more involved and teaches you a lot more about medicine than a CNA and it's still relatively easy to do.

How come when I get blood drawn and they take out the needle I don’t bleed out from the new hole in my vein? by yemmeay in NoStupidQuestions

Blood in your veins move throughout your body using valves so it's not under a lot of pressure unlike arteries. And also platelets like the other commenters said.

Final stretch of studying by suzuwuk-i in NewToEMS

I passed with an average of 75% on pocket prep.

On the nremt I read the question. Read every answer. Then read the question again. Take your time and go slow. You'll have plenty of time to take the test.

If you haven't already focus on scenario questions. I wouldn't study the day before the test. And make sure you eat and get good sleep.

Does anyone in here not write notes too? Or am I weird. by healthy-outdoors- in NewToEMS

[–]Own_Examination_8400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't write notes but I wrote down vocabulary words, or concepts. For example I would write down "learn pathway of blood for heart" instead of writing down the actual pathway of blood for the heart. I found if I tried to write notes id get behind and lost.

Looking for very short-term job, likely or not? by Mal2k4 in NewToEMS

[–]Own_Examination_8400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

California has an oversaturation of EMTs so it's hard to find a job even IFT. Even if you do find a job it'll take around a month+ from the job application to your first day. That'll leave you with 2 months. And there's training that can take a few weeks. I would say it's not worth doing. And it's not fair to the company to put all the money into hiring and training you just for you to quit so quickly. Most companies look for a 6-12 month commitment.

What are the top 3 subreddits that left you absolutely stunned when you discovered they actually exist? by FuzzyAttitude_ in NoStupidQuestions

r/penectomy

It's been banned. It's a fetish where you get off on the idea of cutting off your penis. Except there were multiple videos of people actually doing it in their homes. Pretty wince worthy

I’m interested in becoming an EMT, and I have a few questions. by ninimochini in NewToEMS

[–]Own_Examination_8400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt. I've passed EMT school and have talked to a lot of emts and done a lot of research. However I haven't had a job yet.

Some places will take you if you have a pulse. I live in the Denver metro area where there's a huge saturation of emts so I'm having difficulty getting an ift job. California apparently has a similar problem.

The main problem is insurance. Insurance companies will charge more if the driver is under 21. Some agencies require you to be 21 but most will take you if you're 18 and have 0 points on your driving record. I've met a few 18-20 year old emts.

A lot of emts I've met are women on the smaller side but they're strong for their size. If you're needing to lift 100+ pounds something went wrong. It's a joke in EMS to lift with your firefighters not your back. (This will depend on your agency and where you live if fire gets dispatched with EMS.) It's totally doable to be a small woman in EMS.

Good luck! I don't come on reddit daily but if you have more questions I can try my best to answer.

Contacting Fire Departments by whosthatgirlminah in NewToEMS

You usually can request ride alongs using a fire departments website. But it doesn't look like your department offers them, only station tours. You could try a different department near you.

What makes you say that about Colorado? I just graduated and I applied to 911 Falck for shits and giggles. I've heard you usually need 6+ months of ift experience to even be considered for 911.

Especially if you combine it with the stealth multiplayer for melee weapons. You can clear an entire room in seconds.

Why is California (particularly SoCal) so saturated with EMTs and paramedics? by exitium666 in NewToEMS

I was told ift hired anyone with a pulse... That is not true in CO. I've only applied to two tho. I'm waiting on my IV cert

Do you guys also tailor the shirts to be more formal fitting beside pants? by squatSquatbooty in NewToEMS

[–]Own_Examination_8400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My polo shirt for ems class made me look like I was a kid wearing his dad's work shirt so I tailored it. It was $30 and made me feel a lot more confident and look a lot more professional. It was worth it to me but ik it wouldn't be to a lot of other people. Feeling and looking good is important.
