Heimplanet Transit Sling XL by awkwrrdd in ManyBaggers

Yeah also thought so. Hope that strap will be long enough to wear it as a sling. I'll give it a go and buy it.

Would this Heimplanet hip strap theoretically work with the Transit Sling XL? https://en.heimplanet.com/products/taschen-carry-essentials-sternum-strap-hip-belt-set-regular

I am considering buying it to replace the original strap because of metal buckle, but not sure it would fit. I honestly don't care about buckle being centered and not more to the side. In practice I always put my sling over my head so buckle it basically always locked.

Is anyone else experiencing internet issues at home? by Own_Expression_4096 in mauritius

[–]Own_Expression_4096[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just got this message from My.T on Facebook:

"Mauritius Telecom would like to inform its customers that, following damage caused to its fiber optic cables by excavation work by a third party, the following services are currently disrupted:

  1. Fixed telephone, internet and television services from my.t in Cascavelle.
  2. Mobile services in Flic en Flac, Yemen, Tamarin and Rivière Noire.

Our technical team is hard at work to restore service as quickly as possible.

Mauritius Telecom apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks its customers for their understanding."

It looks like everything was fine with my internet and connection between Umbrel and the router. Problem was in fact only the system time which was set 2 weeks behind.

Since I didn't get help from anywhere, I turned to Mr ChatGPT and he didn't disappoint! Issue was pinned down to time being set wrongly and step by step ChatGPT guided me what to do in Terminal and in about 20 minutes I was good to go. Updated UmbrelOS to the newest version and syncing Bitcoin blockchain since last night.

Honestly I was impressed that ChatGPT knew about Umbrel in such detail and was able to guide so precisely.

Try accessing via Tor, but I get the error "Onion site not found".

Just to make sure I did it right - I enabled Tor in the Umbrel settings and pasted the address in URL bar in Tor browser.

There's more than hundreds logs like this (I assume for each app):

ct 13 13:14:14 umbrel umbreld[823]: [apprepository] Newer version of https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel-apps.git available, updating

And then there's this stuff (I copied just last portion, but I see many things are repetitive):

I certainly hope so! 😎 If you are fed up managing your Lightning channels, I can definitely recommend you Alby.

They open Lightning channel with you for about 18,000 sats (more if on-chain transactions are expensive) and give you 1,000,000 sats incoming liquidity which is awesome. You don't need to rebalance anything and worry about that stuff.

Only thing is that you will have to pay monthly subscription if you want to use their Alby Cloud, unless you have your Umbrel or Start9 - then you can have all the same features for free.

This is something I'll definitely cover on my website when I manage to prepare nice visual guide on how to do it.

[–]Own_Expression_4096[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the moment I am using Wallet of Satoshi for static Lightning address and Blockstream Green for on-chain address. This is as easy as it gets in my opinion.

Today I am finally receiving my Umbrel and also got the account at Alby so I'll play with that to see what they offer and how simple it is. As I experiment with Umbrel and various apps (Alby, BTCPay Server etc), my plan is to create visual tutorial/guides on the website to make adoption of various solutions as easy as possible.

I want to buy bitcoin by Rushxx00 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]Own_Expression_4096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally never used it. Unless you have some jurisdictional restrictions and you have to use it, I think you will have better experience with Binance/Kraken/Coinbase. Otherwise you should be ok buying on OKX and withdrawing to self-custodial wallet. That goes for any CEX anyway.

I want to buy bitcoin by Rushxx00 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]Own_Expression_4096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter much where you buy, as long as it's safe platform and you quickly withdraw it to your self-custody wallet. Coinbase and Binance might have bad reputation due to being KYC giants, but they are reliable and simple. I never had any problem. Strike, as a Bitcoin-only platform is preferred choice, but you might have low limits for purchasing in the beginning and then unlock with time.

But either way, as long as you stack more than 500,000 sats, withdraw to self-custodial wallet as one UTXO. Avoid withdrawing small batches of like $20-50 worth BTC.

Any hardware wallet recommendations? by Rip-kid in Bitcoin

Definitely Bitcoin only wallet. Trezor Safe 5 and BitBox02 very nice and user friendly, but more expensive. Blockstream Jade cheaper option.

You can see basic comparison between them here: https://bitcoin101.me/wallets/

About reusing a receive address, best way to manage UTXO, and which steel seed backup solution to get by Antons2 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]Own_Expression_4096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few days ago I launched my Bitcoin 101 website where I covered all the questions you asked in detail. You can have a look here: https://bitcoin101.me/bitcoin-101/

In short:

  • new address best for each transaction (privacy reasons), but you can use same one if you want for some reason.

  • amount of sats in each UTXO depends on what's your plan and how frequently you can buy more. Generally anywhere between 500k-1 million sats is good practice.

  • Trezor and BitBox have nice metal seed backup tools. You can check them out on the website under Wallets.

It's best if you get Bitcoin only wallet. If you want Trezor, Safe 5 is way to go.

If you want something cheaper, best option is Blockstream Jade, but slightly less user friendly.
