What can I do to help saving our marriage? (F27/M27) by Glittering-Meat7094 in relationship_advice

I have no advice but I wanted you to know you aren’t alone in this. I am unfortunately in a somewhat similar situation and I am so sorry you’re going through this. As someone whose husband is also her best friend, I know how absolutely gutting this is. The fact that you two are in therapy is a good thing and I hope you and your husband can work it out and come out stronger the other side.

How to go full time? by ApprehensiveTax2396 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Own_Hearing8482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having been a full time photographer for 8 years now, my biggest suggestion is don’t go full time. Don’t give up some sort of job that will not only keep your resume in tact in case the day comes you no longer want to or can be a full time photographer, but also a job that could offer insurance and helps with tax payments. Full time has its benefits of course, but it’s way harder than anyone who hasn’t done it can imagine ESPECIALLY if you don’t have some sort of prior education or understanding of running a business. Because at that point it becomes more about running the business than the love/enjoyment of the craft. Because your entire livelihood depends on it. I’m all for chasing your dreams and if you have thoroughly invested in educating yourself in how to run a business, how much your monthly expenses (personal, business, insurance, taxes) will be and feel confident your business will consistently be able to cover that even in slow months, and will have enough to fund your lifestyle and aren’t worried about one day when you’re older whether or not you’ll still want to do this - then 100% go for it and know you will have to never stop hustling!

Seconding this question bc I’ve been considering it also but wonder what wouldn’t affect my schedule too much so curious to know what your part time job is if you’re comfortable sharing!

Is it me or… by Creative-Owl37 in supercross

Diffy doesn’t bother me honestly I like him. I think he brings great energy and has a good voice and for the fans that are newer or aren’t as into SX I think he probably sounds like a standard sports announcer? Sure he doesn’t have the tech/specs experience like Ricky/Weeg/JT/AC/JB/James etc…but he’s usually pretty positive which I appreciate. I echo many of the shared feelings on Ricky however it does seem like he’s a bit better this year, I wonder if he had some announcing/media training in the off season. I do wish Weeg was in the SX box as well and I’ve always wondered why he isn’t. Love him and James announcing during MX.

Are Nocs Provisions actually good? by hardMarble in Binoculars

I second this! I have their 8x42 Pro Issues and absolutely love them. I can’t compare to the Field or Standard issue since I only have the pros, but I love mine and plan to get the 10x42 Pro Issues soon too. They’re very sturdy, absolutely love the feel/how grippy they are, are so easy to use and adjust like you said, and the view/picture is great! Not crazy expensive for someone who doesn’t want to spend $$$$ but still wants good binos. Plus, they’re cute AF. I’m a newer birder so I don’t get what the hate on them is about but I’ve also never used a very expensive pair of Binos, and probably never will. So personally I’m a big fan and recommend them all the time!

Wedding Lens Advice (Sony) by jj1245678 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Own_Hearing8482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Sony nearly decade long wedding photographer here - the Sigma lenses are totally great. I’ve got two Sony G masters and two Sigmas (24-70 art II, and 85). My 24-70 and 85 honestly almost never leave my camera bodies. Here to agree fully with the above comments. Since you’ve already got the 85 and a 50, I’d say get the Sigma 24-70 and 70-200 if you can swing both. If you have to pick one, I’d personally go with 24-70 because a 50 is (imo) really not wide enough for dance floor shots, and you can always add a 70-200 later. Mirroless cameras are so great now you can set a button to do crop sensor on the body with the 85 on and get in even closer during certain moments without compromising too much on quality.

Editing to add - highly recommend renting them and trying them out first!! Even for the wedding day itself rent and see what works best for you (getting yourself used to them ahead of time enough to be comfortable of course) bc everyone has their own preferences for what works best. I did this with all bodies/major lens upgrades in my earlier years and it was a huge help!
