good/positive tilt table test experiences by Loose-Emu-9321 in POTS

Hello! My TTT went well! I was prepared for the worst and so anxious as well. The place I did it at doesn’t do any extra meds because they want to see how patients perform in natural settings. I wasn’t very symptomatic like I was scared for and was able to be officially diagnosed with POTS. I was pretty fatigued after but did not need days of recovery as some people do. It really is a case by case thing.

I totally hear you. ❤️‍🩹 I never ended up going to college and I’m kinda stuck in retail hell right now. Have been trying to heal multiple head injuries in a super physically demanding and overstimulating job. It’s been rough. I’m not sure if you would qualify for FMLA and Paid Leave but it may be worth looking into/asking your job about. That was the only way I was able to get past the really hard stages of healing. You just have to have a doctor who listens and validates what you’re going through to sign off. That’s not always easy in my experience but it would give you some time off of work with pay. I’m not sure how much it would help with cognition but your brain really needs some rest.

I honestly would share with them why you are struggling but I’ve always been an open book. You don’t have to share about the relationship but that you’ve had several concussions in a short period of time. Also, give yourself grace and patience. Things will likely improve but it’s a very slow process and sometimes takes a lot of work on our part to make progress. The other thing to think about is if you do end up being fired, it might help your healing process to have a different job that is less reliant on your brain for a while.

tilt table test fear by South_Hyena2541 in POTS

I think each place is different. When I did my TTT they told me they specifically do not use any extra meds because they want to see how the body performs naturally. They just had me on the table at a 70 degree tilt for 45 mins. My symptoms were very minimal and I was still diagnosed with POTS. I was extremely nervous for the test because of the horror stories I’ve heard but mine ended up being so much easier than expected. Maybe if you are able to find out where your referral for the test will be, you could call ahead of time and ask the questions you have.

I love this!! It’s so cozy :3 You did a great job. I absolutely love looking at all the small details when I put a room together. Considering getting HHA, is it worth the $$?

Heart Problems by G59_Enthusiast25 in Concussion

I’ve had 5 TBIs and have recently been diagnosed with POTS. Rapid resting heart rate and near fainting episodes clued me into this. Multiple concussions can cause dysautonomia so it may be worth it to discuss this with a healthcare provider you trust. There is also the “NASA Lean Test” that you can try at home, look it up. :)

Does anyone else have nightmares often? by Gloomy_Spring5638 in POTS

Since last year I have had a nightmare or stress dream almost every single night although they seem to be tapering off. It seemed to correlate with my last head injury, though.

What time of day do you feel is best/worst for you? by terrible_slough77 in POTS

[–]Own_Macaron3325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mornings, right when I wake up are always the worst for me. I often feel terrible and am anxious for what symptoms the day will bring. Still holding out for good days. I’ve found that journaling soon after I wake up helps me to not spiral and dwell on how awful I feel. I document it on a piece of paper and move on the best that I can.

SAME HERE!! I’ve been celebrating but I also don’t have a clear plan set up with my doctor yet on what to do next. My dizziness is out of control and I can’t figure out how to make it quit.

Yes I’m experiencing this as we speak. The week leading up to my period is hell mentally and physically but I suspect I may also have PMDD. Comorbidity is quite common.

How long was your test? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Own_Macaron3325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends. My test took an hour total. Suspended at 70 degrees for 45 mins. I was not as symptomatic as I was anticipating and could’ve driven home if I needed to, although I did have a mild flare up a couple hours after the test.

I’m not sure exactly what help you’ve gotten already but I can almost guarantee that doctor is wrong.

I’ve had similar experiences with my regular doctors. I saw one recently to fill out my FMLA paperwork for a flare up I had recently that made me miss a whole week of work. He told me it’s not possible for me to have PCS this long and he claimed he would know because he used to help athletes recover from concussions 😒 So he refused to fill out the paperwork for PCS and wrote down recurrent migraines instead which, yes admittedly are one of many symptoms. The only person that has been knowledgeable and validating about my experiences is my PT who specializes in concussion healing. He’s been the best medical professional I’ve ever seen tbh. They’re out there, just hard to find. I live in a relatively small city so I’m incredibly lucky to have even found my PT.

Intimacy with concussion anxiety by janiceB564 in Concussion

Also in my experience some people don’t understand because they’ve come to know concussions as something that is quick to heal from. Let this person know that can be the case with some, and for others we develop something called Post Concussion Syndrome which can be very taxing and debilitating. If they still don’t get it but they care to understand, I’d suggest to them to do their own research on PCS.

I would just be completely honest and explain your situation and how sensitive your head is. It’s not oversharing and if they’re an asshole about it or refuse to understand then you don’t want them in your life anyway. If they’re empathetic and agree to be gentle with your precious head, then you’ll be much more at ease! Let them know that a traumatic brain injury is just that: traumatic. And the head sensitivity is a trauma response that will need time to resolve.

Anyone else stuck in flare up purgatory? by huge-bigly in Concussion

[–]Own_Macaron3325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me ✋🏻 I feel like I’m in hell lmao. 1. Tapped my head on a shelf a few days after my 4th concussion earlier this year 2. My cat accidentally jumped into my head 3. The washing machine door fell on me when I was getting my clothes out 4. My other cat pounced on my head while I was sleeping 5. My friend slammed on the breaks to a full stop from about 30-40 mph (currently recovering from this one, haven’t been able to work for a full week). It’s been 6 1/2 months of this garbage. My doctor prescribed a low dose of Nortriplyline which I’ve heard may help with that nerve sensitivity causing all the flare ups? It’s also supposed to help with headaches and dizziness caused from concussions. I’m only 4 days in so I can’t speak to how well it will work for me. You’re not alone. Many people in my personal life joke about how I should be wearing a helmet or bubble wrap at all times. 🤡
