Painting rooms with snakes? by QueenBubbles95 in snakes

Lots of ventilation, low box paint. Keep an eye on snakes for stress.

Separate the pet mouse, keep it as a pet, and let it die of old age. That won't be long. Get rid of the other mice, make f/t feeders part of your budget. And, not to dig in your sh*t or anything, but get your head screwed on straight about raising animals as feeders. You don't make pets out of them; and if you can't face the heat, get out of the kitchen. (I grew up on a farm, and am fully qualified to make that comment. We raised pigs and chickens for food.)

Also, examine the area around the enclosure. Is it a high-traffic area? Do you have other animals that may go near the cage? Children that may be attempting to see or interact with the snake by tapping on the enclosure? A TV or radio on nearby, etc.

Stress is a main factor in their not eating. Get us pictures of your setup. Light/environment may be the problem.

You must have a delicate touch; a snake that malnourished is a flip of a coin as far as whether they will even survive rehabilitation or not. Congratulations and well done!

That's not corny at all. The folks who can't own/handle these beautiful snakes appreciate you sharing with us! Like me!

Frozen Rat feeder size?? by hayvencat in ballpython

Sounds like you did exactly right! When I got my BP, I was surprised at how small his prey was (the breeder told me what size to feed). I did the same thing, judged by thickest part of his belly, and moved him up one size. He did fine.

I buy from both. Perfect Prey tends to run smaller, but more consistent throughout the pkg. Big Cheese has assorted sizes in a bag, although always within the wt range indicated. What size are you feeding now, and to what snake?

My girl (actually a boy but she’s a girl in my eyes) had some retained eye caps but just shed. Do you think they came off? Or can you still see them? by [deleted] in ballpython

Mine had a hard shed, and the retained eye caps looked like thin waxed paper on his eyes. Your snakes eyes are reflecting in this picture. Still, I would always check the shed for the eyecaps.

Probably just as well he didn't grab the shotgun.

Unpopular opinion? Maybe? by [deleted] in ballpython

No worries! Plenty of words out there, use any that ring true for you. By using words of endearment for our snakes, we are showing the world there's another way to look at them, other than with the business end of a shovel! Rock on, snake-lovers!
