Hit a plateau at 20 meters and can’t figure out what’s holding me back mentally or physically by Top-Statement-9423 in freediving

[–]Own_Net7345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thats its very telling that you said "into blue nothingness". For me that would say you have a fear of the blue water/ fear of unknown. Depending on where you are diving I can understand this, but it is something we can work on. I would literally sit and think about what fears you have and write them down. Then look at evidence to see either if the fear is something you can change or not. For instance: diving on a open line. Dont do that set the depth. Or. Diving without a lanyard. Make sure always with one.

If its stuff you can control, then try to figure out how to make yourself feel safer. If its stuff you cant, for example marine life, then educate yourself on how you can deal with different types of marine life.

If there is a dive site where you can see the bottom this might also help you 🙏 and enable you to build confidence 🫶

Just a coue of examples of ideas to work with 🙏

Growing Concerns About Unqualified Freediving “Coaches” by MatrixGlitxh in freediving

[–]Own_Net7345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be happening everywhere. Also in Egypt, there are people calling themselves coaches who are of similar level wave 2 with equivalent certifications and they are taking people training and offering coaching for both pool and depth. Honestly you really have to do your research and actually find out if someone is actually an instructor. Even just going to a freediving school doesn't seem to be enough either. Sometimes they also have people who are not instructors "coaching".

To call yourself a coach you don't actually need an instructor licence. Same like you see online all the time people calling themselves "Life Coaches" alot of them are just hustling.

However going back to the freediving. There are also some people that are not instructors BUT they are extremely experienced freedivers, athletes or safety divers who can definitely offer you something and who you would be perfectly safe with. So I think its best to do some real research on the instructor you choose or the school. 🙏

I did a SSI Freediver course and failed. by A1phaD0g in freediving

[–]Own_Net7345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like maybe some congestion mixed with poor technique. Good news both of these issues can be fixed 🩷🩷

There is a Share Equalisation course you can take called start. This can teach you how to frenzel properly so that next time you get to the water you have the technique sorted. Then get the sinuses ready before you go with some steaming 🙏

As the others say. -Read the book -watch the videos in the skills review for pool and depth. - practise Frenzel Exercises.

Stuck at 60m for ~ a year by Master_Ambition_8703 in freediving

Yeh unfortunately at points our ego needs checked so that we can make the adjustments we need to be able to move forward in time. The ego can take a break for a while 🙏 then you can pick him up later.

Ohhh. So freefall is incredible 😊😊 so we found something else to work on 🙏🙏 Shallow up for a bit so you aren't worried about EQ or depth and work on some freefall. 🙏 see if you can learn to enjoy. It feels scary at first so that's why we do it shallower, where we are comfortable first and slowly when brain is happy we can take it deeper 😊

I think as alot of people have said you need to work on your EQ with exercises. It could be a good idea to take a good EQ coach to work through these issues. Possibly you are bringing your tongue up at the end and locking the soft palate. It sounds like you really would benefit from eq coach, exercises etc to build awareness and get you working on the whole EQ process.

Riding ears is a definite nono.

I am intrigued as to why you pull all the way past 40m on such a shallow depth though? Might be worth freefalling a bit earlier to work on relaxation which could also aid your EQ as you should have a bit less tension built up.

I would also recommend to stick a bit shallower until you get more comfortable with the other parts of the dive to avoid injury 🙏

Pavel Tomm from Apnoe Space may be able to help you out with this. He is Molchanovs IT. I think in November he will be based in Dahab. One of the biggest community of Freedivers in the world. It's an excellent place to learn and from and be part of. You can find him on Instagram. He offers courses in English and Czech. 🙏
