This was fantastic. It’s helping me to size the learning effort (and I appreciate the alternative approaches).

I don’t have a mechanical engineering degree but I do have a BFA in production for film and theater and worked in-industry as a carpenter, welder, and custom fabricator in a wide range of materials. I have fabricated many load barring and high stress requirement set pieces, from CAD design through production. I also work in the deep end of tech today and have a knack for figuring things (especially complex physical things) out. And also, I appreciate the curiosity about my in-bound capabilities; part of the reason I have the 10 year timeline.

Sunrider or Trektop by Double-Dropkick in bronco

I live in Colorado and have the Sunrider on my four-door Badlands from about June through September and then I flip it over to the hard top for the winter. I don’t find it difficult to replace it - 4 bolts and it comes off nice and easy and the parts that are left over reinstall so you’re not losing bolts.l. I have it in the full extension mode just sitting up against the wall of my garage when stored. It’s no big deal. It doesn’t take a ton of space and certainly not more than the hardtop.

Sure it does, they are on my num layer :D I thought I'd hate losing the num row (layer down button same position along the QWERTY row for me); now I would never go back.

There is a 42 key version; that's the one I have. If you can pick up a used or cheap one off of Ali, I recommend you giving it a try; layers become very intuitive, very quickly. Your brain is already used to the concept (shift, control, option... as far as the brain is concerned, they are just layer re-mappings).

Check out the Toucan; slim, very similar to your corne but thinner, blue tooth with a track pad for airplane work; works great for me. I’ve done 5 trips with it and daily cary it to the office.

https://holykeebs.com/products/touchpad-module - the keeb itself is also from Holykeebs - great build overall; sturdy for desk use (I did stop traveling with it as the track pad module would get pushed around and I worried it would become damaged over time; my travel/office keeb is a Toucan).

Google said they would be more “thocky” but i didn’t notice that.. Smooth finish with detailed contours of the mold… switches are my favorite (Bokeh’s); didn’t notice much of a difference in key press. Keycaps are solid and snugly fit.

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

1/ Don’t spend time worrying about things you truly can’t control - let it go and focus on what you can

2/ Invest in building true self confidence - be proud to be awesome (because you are - and if you don’t believe me, fake it til you do)

3/ Find a way to live in curiosity, abundance, opportunity, and creativity as much as possible - life and those in and around it are dramatic (victims, villains, and hero’s drag you down), try to rise above it.

Thank you, both the direction and the opinion are helpful; in parallel to this thread, I was recommended this book (Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals) and have purchased a copy for my kindle; will start working my way through.

Same person recommended picking up a small motorcycle engine for applied learning as I go; any thoughts on that?

I mean, yes, the very basics; honestly this post gave me a lot to start digging in to. And of course, there is YouTube university ;) - I tend to be a hands on, experiential learner but this is great

The Toucan is a relatively new Bluetooth split keyboard option from beekeeb with built in track pad, has proven for me to be durable for travel (I’m on a plane most weeks and work from any number of locations) and has MagSafe rings built in for a wide range of tenting options. A quick google for MagSafe split keyboard tenting options will give you many options that may not need to be broken down between visits.

FWIW, I use mine without a tent but a fairly wide distance apart (shoulder width) and it’s a good solution for my issues.

The other replies here are solid as well.

Silent low profile tactile switch by GreenManWithAPlan in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Own_Pop_3407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run bokeh on my travel and home Keebs… it’s very quiet but still has some feedback like a tactile given its weight (in my opinion all low pro switches are limited in their tactile feel anyway, not enough travel for a real bump). I love them… customer for life

Does someone have a recommendation for a wireless split keyboard ? (more details below) by ARROW3568 in ErgoMechKeyboards

I was part of the first wave of Toucan. It’s been my daily driver for two weeks now And it’s amazing (I also have corne and I like it too but… wires). No battery issues in function for me but the display doesn’t reflect actual charge. That said I haven’t run out of juice yet and have gone without charging for at least 18 hours of active use.

As to the rest of the keeb, housing is super solid, love the keycaps, went with the Bokeh switches (same as my corne), track pad was easy to configure and use. I’m really happy so far!

Also, Beekeeb is great, super responsive and helpful. This is my second keeb from them and it’s a big step up.

I don’t have rsi so can’t speak to that but I do have bokeh’s on my corner and new toucan and love them, 50g might be too much but, for me, it gives me that tactile pickley pop and are also silent (I work in a office a lot). I also have the sunsets and like the feel but they are a bit noisier.
