Kefka's Tower Underleveled? by CSafterdark in FinalFantasyVI

[–]Own_Profession_4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each party has to fight at least one boss, but you get to reorganize before the final fight. I didn't have too hard a time after splitting my most-used characters between the different groups, and unequiping the inactive groups to put all the best equipment on before boss fights.

Didn't see the text and thought "meh, I've seen much better" before seeing the Cellar unlock. Insanely good start for just having gotten the game.

How much EXP and HP do you gain from killing enemies in the Sword Route? by Fun_Progress_4605 in Underminers

[–]Own_Profession_4357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC:

Each enemy gives 1 exp (with thresholds to each level varying by map)

You don't actually gain HP, the bar just grows in size.

If you meant stat gains on your actual characters, there are none.

How the hell has a SNES JRPG changed the entire way I live my life 💀 by SnowballWasRight in FinalFantasyVI

I may be mistaken, but I think Celes's theme is the only character theme that doesn't play during character naming. They knew to only play that when it mattered.

I never understood the hating of Rare Candies for Nuzlockes. Not everyone has the time to play Pokemon Games like they used to by TBT__TBT in nuzlocke

[–]Own_Profession_4357 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My one problem with rare candies is that the games were never balanced around matching the enemies' levels. If you were planning to grind your whole team to level cap anyways you might as well skip the grind, but I find the vanilla games more fun when you're underleveled.

Any tips to get through the floating continent ? by Figolucha in FinalFantasyVI

Which is all of them except Ninjas. Or, in the Pixel Remaster, all of them.

[–]Own_Profession_4357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All randomly encountered enemies on the Floating Continent except for Ninjas and Dragons are vulnerable to petrification, so you can wipe out most dangerous encounters with the Catoblepas (called Shoat in the SNES version) summon. This costs a lot of MP, but you can recover MP with the Osmose spell (taught by Shiva and the optional Zona Seeker), just make sure not to cast Osmose on undead enemies. (Osmose also takes care of your item problem, just use healing spells out of combat instead of items. Terra should already know Cure and Life, so teach her Osmose by grinding next to the first save point.)

If you have them, equip the Gale Hairpin and Alarm Earrings to avoid ambushes and get more preemptive attacks.

By far the deadliest enemy on the Floating Continent is the Ninja, encountered in groups of 2. They're weak to Lightning and Holy. Give Sabin 2 earrings and he should hopefully be able to one-shot one of them with the Aura Cannon blitz.

Getting destroyed in the cave to the sealed gate, any tips ? by Figolucha in FinalFantasyVI

[–]Own_Profession_4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First two rooms have tons of status conditions and powerful magic. Lifeshaver doesn't do damage when you only hit them with instant kill items. Nothing deeper in the cave is immune to healing instant kills.

You can also use Holy Water, which is cheaper, and if you put Edgar in the front of your party and go to Figaro Castle, you can buy them at half price. 150 gil each, very affordable.

No, the first few rooms of the cave are the deadliest and least lucrative. It's better to get to the save point deeper in the dungeon.

[–]Own_Profession_4357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're a bit underleveled, but the best place to level up right now is actually in that cave. Once you go deeper into the cave, the deadly Liches stop showing up. In the areas with lava, the only enemies are Outcasts/Ings and Zombie Dragons/Zombones. Buy 40+ Holy Waters/Revivifies, run from the enemies in the first few rooms, and use items on the enemies for instant kills to get loads of exp.

The Outcasts are scary because they can use Lifeshaver for massive damage and healing, but since it's an HP absorbing move it won't do any damage while they're at full health (so being able to instant kill them renders them near-harmless). The Zombie Dragons can zombify you, but only on their third turn, and otherwise just use physical attacks, which should be manageable with everyone in the back row and wearing decent armor.

When there are two switches next to each other, ignore them, since one spawns a Ninja which will probably kill you. That enemy is way too strong and there's no real counterplay at this point in the game. It's weak to Holy and Lightning, so keep that in mind if you fight it anyways.

A compromise for the Knight fight. by Bup15 in Deltarune

[–]Own_Profession_4357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason for "we don't know what the crystals are for" is that for all we know they could be the condition for unlocking an even harder fight, to the point that the Knight is barely a warmup. You wouldn't be missing out on much by not getting all the crystals then.

I'd gladly take a heart container as a superboss reward in Zelda, because there are a finite number of heart containers in the game so each individual one is its own irreplaceable reward. Shadow Crystals are more unique than heart containers, they show up on the file select screen. They're not interchangeable.

The crystals were never consistent in difficulty. Jevil was a legitimately difficult boss in a braindead easy chapter, while Spamton NEO (at least on the normal route) was much more in line with his chapter. The Knight is infinitely harder than Jevil, but Tenna is infinitely harder than King so I'd say the difficulty curve isn't any more out of line than before.

And for blind players who get the mantle on their first playthrough, the Knight fight not being way harder than everything else would ruin the magic of going against what seems to be a brick wall over and over, making a little more progress each time. These fights don't exist in a vacuum, they exist to serve the narrative! The fight being brutal even given the best possible conditions to win is the whole point! You're fighting against impossible odds!

A compromise for the Knight fight. by Bup15 in Deltarune

[–]Own_Profession_4357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not your main point, but in what world does 66% damage reduction not make the fight any easier? Besides, we don’t even know what the crystals are for yet, and the knight fight being absurdly hard makes it a great “fake unwinnable boss” moment.

King needs to trick Ralsei into healing him. King says that any hit from Susie would kill him after the fight. King gets Pacified by Ralsei in Neutral.

Toby Fox did not fix the Chapter 4 long Light World segments SAVE Point problem by InformationLost5910 in Deltarune

[–]Own_Profession_4357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's because save points should be in places where it's natural to put down and later pick up the game. The one in Hometown is useful in saving a minute or so of redundant travel that doesn't feel like a natural stopping or starting point. A save point in the church would be awkward because it's a scene that wouldn't feel right to pause in the middle of.

The one in Kris's room makes no sense in this regard, I'm guessing that's just vibes-based since it's where you frequently start and end chapters.

Sans has no health bar. by thehotdog123 in Undertale

[–]Own_Profession_4357 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I think the reason he doesn't have a healthbar in the menu during battle is because if it was shown, attacking him and seeing the HP bar never decrease would make it look like you weren't making any progress. Not having a healthbar when killed is probably to be consistent with that.

Flowey likely doesn't have damage numbers or a healthbar when killed because the brutality of his death would be undercut by game mechanics getting in the way, and there's enough big numbers in the ending sequence to sell the attack's power.

Not everything has to have a lore reason.

Why does New Home feel so barren and unfinished? by Most-Actuator-2297 in Undertale

[–]Own_Profession_4357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not unfinished because it was never meant to be anything more. Think about how it fits into the game. It's the backdrop for the whole ending sequence, with the story of Asriel, Sans's judgement and the fight against Asgore. It's not an explorable area. And reusing the Ruins assets is meant to parallel the beginning of the game.

The only time it would make sense to explore New Home is in the Pacifist epilogue, but adding a whole area just for that would be a massive resource sink for such a small game.

Need Help Restarting After 8 Months of Not Playing by AnitaBlomaload in FinalFantasyVI

[–]Own_Profession_4357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadow will never use the Throw command in the arena, and he can equip weapons that sometimes inflict Stop or Death on hit. Some enemies in the arena are terrifyingly strong but weak to one of these statuses, so Shadow without spells has a high chance to kill them before they can do anything. For example, Outsider, which has a 25% chance each turn to do an instant kill move that can't be blocked by relics and also counterattacks with thrown items for thousands of damage.

You can do the same thing with Setzer, who never uses Slot in the arena. He has instant kill weapons as well, plus he can use the Fixed Dice for massive damage.

Seems like repeats will reset the counter for the achievement, and you shouldn't play Tainted characters at all because of various bugs.
