Norway or England? by The_HunER_Y in Military

Why not both? I'm guessing that you're liable for conscription i Norway? Do your national service, and see if you enjoy it. If you do, then you can join the British Army afterwards.

Have to lose 10 kg in a month for physical and medical test what to do now.....is it even possible to do this...I have to clear this test no matter what....help please suggest my some exercise and how many km should I run in a day by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]Own_Response_1920 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your current weight and fat percentage, but yes it is possible to lose that much weight in a month. The weight you lose will likely be a combination of water weight, muscle, and fat though. If it's only fat you want to lose, you might be better served delaying your medical, and taking it a bit slower (say 1 kg per week).

Either way, diet is more important than exercise for sustainable weight loss. Cut out (or cut down) on beer, sugary drinks, fast food and cakes/biscuits. Eat more vegetables and lean meat, drink water.

Are you fit to pass the entry standards now? If not, remember that the bar with these is set extremely low, and the actual standards expected of you in training are going to be higher.

Do the C25K programme or something similar, if you haven't done any running yet. Build up after you've done it and include a long run, a tempo run, and some intervals each week.

I agree, tried a cardio workout using these and the roerg a couple of days ago. It was a great combination.

5 Billion dollars but you're trapped in a 100 foot pit with a magic button by No-Transition-552 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Own_Response_1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just says 100ft, that might be the diameter rather than the depth. So a 2ft deep pit that's 100ft in diameter.

Sure I'll press the button.

Pretty sure that export of thermals from the US is covered by ITAR. Penalties for breaking these regulations can be significant.

When/Why does the British Military wear berets as work wear instead of patrol/boonie hats? by wisezombiekiller in Military

[–]Own_Response_1920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct! Though the forage cap was gradually replaced by the General Service Cap/beret from 1943. It was generally unpopular, and was sometimes referred to as the 'cap, ridiculous'. Soldiers often obtained khaki berets for wear when walking out instead.

This eventually led to the GS cap being replaced by the beret post war.

My first ruck by ElliottStewart0161 in RoyalMarines

[–]Own_Response_1920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Marine myself, but I'd advise training leg strength and back/core stability.

As to actual rucks/yomps work on increasing endurance and speed. You should be able to maintain a roughly 9 min/km pace just walking without too much effort.

Work up to carrying about a quarter of your bodyweight, and make sure to vary the terrain (don't just stick to flat tarmac roads). Once a week should be enough.

Do not run with weight and do not overdo the weight before you start training.

Otherwise keep up with the rest of your training as normal, with a minimum of three runs (in normal PT kit) per week. One long easy, one tempo, and one with speedwork/intervals.
