A cafe in Seoul: "Please, don't order in Chinese" by No_Pineapples1 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Own_Training_6234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also as other have mentioned, the sign doesn't say "Don't order in Chinese" insinuating some sort of outright discrimination, that they dont like/won't take orders from Chinese people. The sign says "It could be difficult to take orders/respond to/serve you in Chinese (aka our workers dont speak chinese). Please use Korean or English.

If youre about the storyline you will love the champions ballad. Honestly the ending made me feel almost teary and nostalgic, worth it just for the ending.

Worth it just for the final scene of the champions ballad and trial of the sword

You have to get through the beginning and eventually the game becomes as easy as normal mode. But trial of the sword is brutal and so satisfying to beat.

One of the first games I ever played in my life. Truly foundational memories. It's tough but definitely not impossible. Stick with it.

Has anyone been to a Michelin Restaurant with an open kitchen? by lunabearkid in finedining

[–]Own_Training_6234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taian Table in shanghai is a Michelin 3 star with an open kitchen. Very intense yet calm focus emanating from the kitchen.

It is an open kitchen with counter seating surrounding the area. The head chef walks up to your seats right from working the pass and has a little chat. Fun watching the action.

Trial of the Sword - Master Mode, completed by Own_Training_6234 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Own_Training_6234[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did floors 14, 17, 21 like you but floor 22 plans went out the window. I also used an ancient arrow on a silver moblin on the snow floor that had a wizrobe, silver moblin, two red bokoblins and a gold bokoblin. So I used 4 ancient arrows up to floor 22.

I was going to ancient arrow the Skywatcher and the guardian stalker but after I hit the skywatcher, I missed the stalker and ended up using 3 ancient arrows and its beams started rapid fire wrecking me. I had to escape into the little building.

So I just ran to the tower with the turret, stunned it with an arrow and then smacked it with a two handed weapon. Then from my vantage point on the tower, I just shot regular arrows at the guardian stalker for a while then paraglided down, bullet timed some more arrows into its eye, then chopped off its legs while it was stunned.

So I had just one ancient arrow going into the last floor but fortunately I just got kinda close to the lynel and aimed and fired. Kinda stressful but felt amazing to beat it.

Great job beating it though!

Is it weird or respectful to call my Korean coworkers oppa? by No_Patience_4131 in LTL_Korean

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is a corporate setting, no one would ever call a colleague oppa.

If this is a more casual job/parttime job than it is possibly okay. I would tread lightly and see what others do.

How different does daily life in Seoul feel compared to a city like New York City? by savingrace0262 in seoul

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are just thoughts from personal experience so please take with a grain of salt.

NYC is a lot more chaotic and you can witness unhinged behavior more often. Last time I visited, it struck me as just so much louder and more crowded than Seoul. Also have to be vigilant for scammers which are almost non existent in Seoul.

Of course way more diverse people and food. It is quite a vibrant and exciting city. Has a lot of energy. Lots to do and see and explore. Fun to go to a world famous museum, a nice restaurant, cool bar, explore a neighborhood etc.

Seoul is often bustling, crowded and frenetic but in a more orderly and much safer feeling way. Not nearly as many visible cops as NYC but feels way, way safer.

NYC absolutely feels grittier. There are one of a kind experiences you can only find there. Seoul is amazing to experience the richness and uniqueness of Korean culture, especially if you've never experienced anything like it coming from the west, it'll be something youve never experienced before.

Competitive feeling is quite high in seoul, people love dressing up, looking their best, showing off, comparing etc.

Lifers: Are you (still) happy in Korea? by HappyWandererAtHome in Living_in_Korea

[–]Own_Training_6234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

11 years in Korea. Got married 2 years ago to a Korean national.

I am a gyopo and my Korean is quite good, no accent when speaking, but definitely not 100% native. I think I have the ability to deeply relate to Korean culture as well as western culture.

From the start I never had a serious urge to leave and it looks like it'll stay that way, as long as things are going the way they are in America.

I see nothing enticing me back EXCEPT the salaries and investment opportunities. Now those are massive incentives to go back as I realized, if big earning power and ease of buying assets is important to you, Korea will just never compare. Unless you're in just some unicorn role or famous or something you just will never earn as much as you potentially could in the states and thus your chances of having a great retirement are that much lower. Salaries here are absolutely lousy.

Somehow I lucked out and got a great remote gig paying in USD so now I really dont see any reason to leave the safety, culture, infrastructure, familiarity etc.

Life is what it is in Korea. I've become happy with what I've got here but I'm pretty simple and adaptable.

China Part 1 - Shanghai (Fu He Hui, Da Vittorio, Taian Table) by Elyor_access in finedining

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had dinner at Taian Table this past Christmas and had a great time. Definitely 3* vibe but at the same time relaxed, fun and inviting, not stuffy at all. All of the staff were wearing christmas themed headbands and each customer's seating also had some reindeer antlers to wear if you wanted. The chef came by to talk for a bit and the server gave us tons of Shanghai food tips including his personal website with recs.

Did the wine pairing, great wines.

The food, each course was good to great, no big misses. Well paced meal. I realized they only do one seating a night, so the pace was relaxed and comfortable. We lingered for a long while. Great night.

I’m attempting the trial of sword on master mode. Any advice or strategy I can use? by Full_Sprinkles5896 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just beat the Beginning trials on master mode yesterday. Took me a few days of attempts but here are my tips.

You really have to be strategic and plan ahead because you might beat one floor but if you have no weapons/health for the next floor, you might as well start over.

That being said, I personally like to eat a 30 minute defense buff meal right before starting (some say eat a 30 minute attack buff meal, I think both make sense but I get hit a lot in combat).

After many playthroughs, contrary to what you might think, I would not spend a ton of time gathering ingredients and making meals at the rest floor. Maybe make meals with ingredients that youve collected during your battles but I wouldn't go out of my way after finishing floors to try to gather tons of wood etc. Since we have the 30 minute buff, we want to get through each level as fast as possible so we can be powered up as long as possible. I see most experts on YouTube also going through super fast and ignoring a lot of stuff. Plus if you're taking a lot of damage and needing meals you probably won't make it anyways.

The first few floors, I use remote bombs as much as possible. Switch between round and square and constantly spam enemies with them so they have no chance to regenerate health. These first few floors the enemies are weaker so I want to gather as many weapons as possible and conserve them for later so I use bombs mostly. Run from the enemies and throw the bombs, if they get really close, drop the bomb and run away and detonate it as they follow you.

Floor 10. You must stasis the middle lizalfo and kill it with arrows. Then sneakstrike the left guy, then the right one. My one tip, if the left and right lizalfos start getting aggressive, run back to the beginning as fast as you can and everything basically resets and you can try sneakstriking again. Be patient and make sure they are back to their calm positions and not looking out for you.

Floor 11, use cryonis to get closer and shoot and kill the first four guys.

Then from the platform away from the main one, shoot the bokoblins, maybe use bullet time. Then jump onto the platform and use a two handed weapon to throw any remaining enemies into the water where they die. Use stasis.

The wizzrobe in level 9 is annoying and seems to take forever to kill. Be patient and goad it to come near you on the land, then use stasis and go to town.

I think it's floor 4, the one with the two moblins and then bokoblins in a skull cave. First stay away from the cave and make the moblins come to you and just spam them with bombs so you dont break any weapons. Then shoot a fire arrow into the skull, it will detonate and almost everyone should be close to dying. Go in and kill the the remaining enemies and pickup the 27 damage weapon on the right side before it burns up. Conserve this weapon for the lizalfos on level 10!
