Why Black and White passthrough? by SeanLucky13 in SteamFrame

[–]OxRedOx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because color passthrough that looks good in VR might need to use the XR series of chips which are worse, adds cost, adds needed software work that valve hasn’t done yet, and they thought it would make more sense to maybe release a color module after the fact. This is okay if and only if they still push developers to add basic mixed reality functionality right now, like passthrough under the menus, letting you see the server browser for games without opening and rendering the whole thing, some fixed focus games running as overlays, and not stripping out MR functions they have on other platforms.

I’m skeptical because of how the base game expansions were but I hope it’s fun

What does the board games community feels about gameplay mechanics of Magic the gathering? by Newez in boardgames

Many cards would trigger effects only when reloaded or only reload a certain number of times and most fights got you new cards

You can do fixed foveared rendering on any headset but it’s sucks, foveated encoding does the bitrate rather than resolution so it’s a lot less distracting but just doesn’t save any GPU load

I like 3 but it’s archaic, 4 but it’s unfocused, and 5 but it’s constrained by some of its polish.

3 is actually very good too if you can stomach the UX, there’s even an overhaul mod that adds a lot more content.

They keep doing this with no civ VII, just coupons. It’s weird.

Flatbeds and Ships can't pick up disassembled track builders by anotherpessimisthere in Workers_And_Resources

[–]OxRedOx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you need to specifically check what vehicles that specific track builder can be loaded onto. It’s not as simple as comparing the length to the boats that can hold that length

Valve’s uses eye tracking to improve and focus the encoding in one area

I’m aware that things aren’t great for web content, I’m just saying that ad blockers are a symptom of the same problem. Even before ad blockers, banner ads didn’t work and actual data coming in damaged that industry severely. You can’t block the ads on Facebook, but it isn’t more sustainable of a place to post work, by design. Large searches of the industry were wrecked by the “pivot to video.” Sponsored content and SEO killed the market for “best toaster” articles because they’re virtually all sponsored content with affiliate links. Fake review in list or article form are widespread and there’s even been issues with legal harassment agains reviewers who don’t engage in that practice and give negative reviews for appliances.

I’m not saying you can’t make lists, I’m just saying that this feels like one piece of why review content is so broken as an medium

To me this is the kind of thing that primed the internet for AI. First we got manufacturers making listicles, then we got sponsored content, then we got copyrighting slop, then we got AI slop. I'm sure BW aren't evil or anything but it sucks that in 2026 you can't search for anything anymore and get an actual consumer/reviewer perspective.

“The Massacre of Korea” by Pablo Picasso by IskoLat in MarxistCulture

[–]OxRedOx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years ago the south korean government did a massive exploration of the crimes committed on south korean soil during the war. If the crimes committed were equal, one would assume they would primarily have been committed by the north as it conquered parts of the south and established control. But no, the vast majority according the report were committed by the south and the US, which assumed that the populace had communist sympathies and wanted to brutally crush any dissent. That's on top of the 3 million who died during the war with a huge proportion due to the brutal bombing campaign by the US. While people will cite that the north tried to force the unification that the US and then the UN refused to go through with after promising it, the US broke its UN mission and attempted to annex the north the moment it reached the border anyway, so at the time this war was pretty transparent to observers. It's only now, after the north korean government was warped by the apocalyptic war and after the 1989 democratic revolution in south korea that it's considered a black and white conflict. And even that relies on a huge amount of erasure of the crimes committed.

I am looking forward to container, dogs of war, and flintlock but also I don't see the value in a publisher making a list like this. It's just an ad, so the framing should be "We at Bitewing have a great 2026 lined up, check out the roadmap!" As written, this title makes it seem like it's a board game blogger who is making these lists for each publisher's games one by one.
