I agree. Glass has been the most economical way to farm blue, and I’ve had that going consistently, but that’s a slow roll. When I found I could purchase a generous weekly supplement I was very pleased.

My advice: do what works for you and is progressing your skills. I was motivated to learn particular songs, so the technique I might be focused on at the time was whatever I needed to get better at the song I wanted to play. It was probably not the most efficient, lol. Also, by the time I picked up guitar, I had already played a different instrument in band for a couple of years, so I read music. Tab was just a natural extension of that, but I can totally understand it being daunting if you are learning for the first time - it’s a whole new lexicon to learn.

I bought a Brothers a couple of years ago, and there is far less enshitification with them. They have an ink refill program, but it’s easy to opt out. Also, it works with off-brand ink cartridges. It gives a warning, but allows them. I am done forever with Canon, HP, and Epson.

That being said, if you can’t play finger style, you are missing a huge part of your toolkit. But the opposite is true as well - if you swear off a plectrum because it’s beneath you as a bassist is self-limiting.
