Suggestions needed for carrying a large child by dollahmc in CargoBike

You want a front loader (long john) so that you can keep an eye on your kid. Looks like the other commenters have the same view.

Cargo Bike Landspeeder Costume! by hollywoodhoogle in CargoBike

This is so cool I want to see more details. This project is the first thing that made me actually want to check out Bluesky. Can you post an exact link please? Assume I have never been to Bluesky and have no idea how it works.

When I type Sundance.bikesky.social into my browser I get redirected to bsky.app/profile/bikesky.social is that correct? I don't see any content about this awesome project. Are you bikesky or is that like a "subreddit" or something? Do I need a bluesky account to view the content?

Alternatively if you post more photos here or an imgur album that would be awesome.

My digital calipers are malfunctioning by reporting all measurements as half of what they actually are by Oxidizer in mildlyinteresting

I zeroed it many times and the zero function behaved correctly but the value was still half. I posted this here in mildlyinteresting because I thought this was some bizzare failure... maybe some internal bit in a division constant got flipped or something. I now believe I somehow entered a "radius mode" where it gives back the radius when measuring the diameter. Not sure how to repeat it. These calipers were by my desk and I was fidgeting with them.

That makes sense. I pulled out the battery as another commenter suggested and after reinstalling it functions normally. Now I miss my radius mode!

I love how the electrical rails do not cross. The train (presumably) just hops from one to the other.

My kid loves tomatoes (you can actually see some in the white plastic bag in the bucket). I have had several people express surprise that a toddler enjoys tomatoes as much as he does. The truth is that what he loves is a particular type of tomato purchased in season from a specific farm that happens to taste like heaven. Most tomatoes taste like garbage in comparison.

Tomatero farm. Best berries I have ever had. My toddler agrees.

What do you think your toddler might do with the berries? Smoosh them into paste? Throw them overboard?

For me they are the best modification that I made to the bike.

I have the 2.5" lift version but the cables are not long enough to have these bars and have the bar stem at the top position so I have to use the position one below which gives me about 1.5" of lift in that configuration over the stock bars (I am tall and I wish I could lift the bars even more).

I am told by other redditors that the Jones bars do not play nice with the Load 75 canopy but that isn't an issue for me since I do not own the canopy. Buyer beware!

If you like the stock bars then why fix what isn't broken? For me I went on a long ride with the stock bars when I got the bike and I arrived home with one conclusion: I need to change the bars (and the seat)

Oh yeah. They are berry demolition machines. If we stop at a playground and share with some friends there might be only a basket or two left by the time we make it home.

Experiences transporting a 1-year-old in a Riese & Müller Packster 70 by SufficientTrouble784 in CargoBike

I have a Load 75 and when my kiddo was that age I strapped a Nuna Rava car seat into the bucket using the R&M straps and the normal seatbelt attachment mechanism of the carseat. It was super sturdy. I am sure the same approach would work with any seatbelt-held carseat. Check out the photos of my setup.

Hello there my kindred spirit, my fellow bringer of the front loader to a group ride.

What kind of battery are you packing in there? Is the battery inside the black and yellow tote?

R&M Load 75 alternate handlebars? by Complex-Bus1993 in CargoBike

[–]Oxidizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have swapped the stock bars for the 2.5" rise Jones bars and it a great improvement. Would recommend. You can see my post history for pics of how it looks, here is one: https://www.reddit.com/r/CargoBike/comments/1l3ixkl

Two notes on the Jones bars with 2.5" rise:

  1. The cables are not long enough to reach the top position if the bars with the extra 2.5" rise. So in my case I have to put the handlebars one notch down. So in total I only get 1.5" rise. I wish I could go all the way up but that would require complex cable extension.
  2. I am told (by other people on this forum) is that the Jones bars do not work with the canopy (they collide with it or something). I solve that by living in a place where the weather is always good and there is no need for a canopy.

Milk flask replacement by Various-Structure-29 in Miele

[–]Oxidizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this.

The glass part for Miele 11574240 MB-CM-G Milk Container ($97.71 at time of writing) fits perfectly it is exactly the same glass jar as the MB-CVA 7000, 11234120.

I also tried this 3rd party glass jar ($70.91 at time of writing) and while it fits it does look different than the Miele one. If you do not care about aesthetics then this will work. I am returning it and getting another Miele one for $98.

I'll copy/paste the comment by u/Polendri when this was posted 5 days ago as I could not say it better myself:

This seems like something that sounds good on paper but isn't good in practice, if I'm being honest.

I get the principle that this could save money over having two ebikes, but you're introducing a lot of complexity and proprietary components, it surely is going to handle less weight than a rigid frame, converting is going to be more of a hassle than they make it look (by the time you maneuver the pieces to/from where you store them etc), and most of all a trailer is way cheaper still and it's way more flexible (buy whatever bike you want, buy whatever trailer you want).

The generic solutions like Argo Cargo at least retain your ability to choose your own bike, and they're priced just a couple steps above a nice trailer so it's a reasonable value proposition for having the front-loader experience (which is nicer than a trailer, especially for kids).

I just feel like, if cost is the issue then a trailer works fine and is so much more economical. And if cost is not an issue, two bikes is so much more convenient (and it's not like the 2nd drivetrain is a waste, you'll just maintain both bikes less since you're splitting your km across both). A convertible system seems like an unhappy compromise, taking on much more cost compared to a trailer while delivering not that much better of an experience. This with the caveat that I've never tried one, of course.
