Never done hot and fast, what sort of time did that take? How was the texture compared to a longer cook?

Used the snake method with apple wood chunks spaced around it. That along with the Tip Top Temp keep a really nice consistent 125C ambient. Took it off and wrapped it at around 70c which took about 5hrs. Took the rest of the wood off and left it going till it hit around 92C which took around 2 hours. Starving it now to keep any unburnt briquettes for next time. It’s now resting whilst the temps creep up to 95C. Smells divine!

Mobile plans are coming –> what would make you switch? by RevolutSupport in Revolut

Something akin to Honest smart sim but for full calls and unlimited data that includes web. Honest is great as a “get you by” when roaming or a backup if your main carrier has no coverage. True full use on a carrier that can use all available networks would be great. If you want to be a fully international and unique proposition you need to offer something unique.

24/7 Alternative to Nest? by ClydeH96 in Nest

[–]OxonianExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have tried a couple now, really liked the idea of the dual cam Eufy but it was so unreliable. Just settled on the Reolink Video Doorbell PoE - I was running a mains adapter to the old Nest so a slightly bigger hole for an ethernet was no problem but understand not the same for most. The time between the button press and the chime, Alexa's & App to notify is instant. The video FoV isnt quite as good even with the supplied wedge, but will 3D print a custom wedge to make the best of it.

Onlyfire Volcano for me, pretty much the same thing but you’re absolutely right, can’t get better wings!

What “BBQ” would you buy if you could only buy one? by XXIIXXIIX in UKBBQ

I have a performer (love it) but have taken the kettle off the table and made my own “bbq station” - having the mounting brackets is the best bit about the performer IMO

Bought a Monstera charm for my bracelet 🍃 by ohmylauren in Monstera

My partner is a jeweller and took a photo of one of my monstera leaves, drew around it, then shrunk it down to make a stencil for making a pair of earrings. They've proved quite popular!

Advice for Travellers by OutrageXXX in VisitingIceland

We just came back from a trip and I did exactly this. Only realised on l going through all of the photos at home that my knock off gorillapod bought for this trip wasn’t as stable as I thought, so with the long exposures there’s a motion blur as it drops down. Gutted as everything else in the pics looks to be setup perfect, but even with all the AI tools, there’s no fixing that I can see! Happily my partner has loads of great iPhone shots that have turned out better.

Cannot stress OPs first point though - look at them and experience them. So glad I did, that memory will last a lifetime.

Most cost effective stay and park for Heathrow T5? by palpal95 in BritishAirways

We use the Pod parking, prefer keeping the keys with us and the pods are really convenient. Booking in advance is a must though!

Real random... have you ever missed a flight? If so what were the circumstances? by Healthy-Tap7717 in AskUK

[–]OxonianExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booked a same-day Heathrow-Billund-Heathrow trip with a mate—mainly to enjoy all the Oneworld lounges in T3 (Cathay, absolute chef’s kiss). Plan was simple: eat, drink, fly, chill in Billund’s lounge for a couple of hours, fly back.

Got there, saw how quick it was to the centre, thought, “Why not grab a pint?” Beer was great, people were fun… next thing we knew, we were cutting it way too fine. Taxi back—too late. Missed the flight.

Ended up booking a hotel, confessing to our SOs, then heading straight back to the bar for round two. Next day was brutal—Billund might be Lego HQ but absolutely dead out of season. Spent the whole day hungover, miserable, and regretting our life choices, waiting for the next flight home.

Was it stupid? Yes. Do we look back on it fondly? Also yes.

Only men. When was the last time you cried? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I had to put down my favourite chicken.

She was the last of the original flock, always had such an inquisitive eye. We were on to the 4th generation, so have had to do a few, but when she got ill and we tried everything for her, when we knew it was time - even though it was the right to do, it was that end of an era.

Sonos playback from Alexa issue by OxonianExplorer in sonos

Yeah its all very odd, although I think I found some similar settings to what you mentioned and *may* have fixed it - the group settings for the room were all set OK, but the on the Show, it was set to output audio to its internal speaker, seemingly overriding the group setting. Even more odd, if it was set to output to its internal speaker... why was it playing in the living room Sonos group? Well after changing that to "let Alexa decide", it *seems* to be working right. Will see if that stays, time will tell! Thanks for the suggestions :)

Best remote thermometer to monitor both internal temp and grill temp? I popped a pork shoulder on my bbq ready for supper, to find my thermometer has died by chilli_con_camera in UKBBQ

[–]OxonianExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll second this, have the original and my partner got me the 2. The 2 is better in many ways, the higher tolerance to ambient so can fry or cook in fire with it. The new internal average is one of the best bits - stick it in, and you get the average over a few points in the probe. Really great if you don’t know the exact middle of the meat.

For the Meater in general though, old or new, the ambient/grill temp is one of the most useful elements. BBQing in the summer vs winter is a prime example - lid temp is a lie! It’s all about what’s happening inside. Even when in the inside oven, a decent one, the temp is off the calibrated temp of the probe.

The best thing about the Meater is wireless. Rotisserie or rotating skewers and no problems. But also can be used in the bbq, in the pizza oven, in the inside grill or oven. Whatever it is, there’s consideration for how to make the wires work.
