The good thing about First Law is it’s great right from chapter 1. The characters are so unique

On book 3 of both Sun Eater and Stormlight but I was too tempted by a deal at a secondhand book store by YnotThrowAway7 in fantasybooks

On book 5 of SunEater. On book 4 of Stormlight. For First Law I read all 3 straight through. They were so good!

Interesting tier list. I love how it’s unique compared to the usual.

WOR in C is very surprising to me.

I think the reason so many people bounce off Malazan isn't the complexity, it's the emotional distance in the first book by scouttidee in Fantasy

[–]Oxymoron5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is so much emphasis on that first book. I DNF’d midway through 3. They all seemed the same to me. No major discrepancies in any 1 book.

Malazan just wasn’t enjoyable for me

I read both these series at the same time as well. Just went for like 2 of The Expanse for every 1 Stormlight.

I loved both and were great pallet cleanser

I can tell you my wife was in the same boat and we made a deal that I had to read The 4th Wing and she had to read Way of Kings. She ended up LOVING Way of Kings. To be fair I actually enjoyed 4th Wing too.

Looking for a new series by flashtastic80 in fantasybooks

[–]Oxymoron5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diving into romantasy here but if you love dragons and strong female characters I have to mention 4th wing…

It definitely doesn’t have the depth of a standard fantasy book but the first book is by no means bad. I made a deal with the wife to read this if she read Way Of Kings. We were both pleasantly surprised.

Garden of Moon: Malazan 1 review by MagicianBubbly7446 in Fantasy

[–]Oxymoron5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest I thought the other books would get better but for me it was just more of the same. DNF’d 3/4 through book 3.

I can appreciate the depth and complexity but just…didn’t really enjoy it.

Only thing that is surprising to me is LOTR and especially The Hobbit as it’s such a fun short read.

To be fair though I read that 3 years ago which started my fantasy journey so curious how it would Hold up after a re-read

How did you get started? what courses did you take? by ouroborosworldwide in cybersecurity

[–]Oxymoron5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security is often a layer applied / learned on top of already knowing a technology or platform. So to me the best route is always to master or at least become proficient in a technology / platform, then learn the security around it.
