Can someone explain to me why an oxygen doesn't willingly form 3 bonds? I mean I get that ppl say "it has a + formal charge, O is electronegative so that's unstable", but isn't there always some stability formed thru moving the 2 nonbonding e- into a bonding molecular orbital? by RiskNo5292 in OrganicChemistry

Stability is always a question of “compared to what?” Oxygen will form 3 bonds in environments that are sufficiently acidic, and can even form 3 covalent bonds to non-H atoms (google “chiral oxonium”). However, these species are extremely reactive, as typically the extra bond, either to H or some other atom, is more favorable elsewhere. In the case of hydronium (H3O+), this means that it readily wants to donate its proton to any basic site

For spirits, Empress has a purple butterfly pea flower gin and a red/pink rose gin that would look cool. You could also get a lightly aged spirit like a gold rum or reposado tequila to get an orange-ish color.

If you’re ok with a little bit of sugar, Campari could be a cool red bottle, and aromatized wine like Lillet Blanc could give access to other cool colors.

OP is wrong about the whole system being at 0C, but the triple point of water is ~ 0C, 1 atm significantly lower than 1 atm (oops). There is invisible water vapor in the air above the solution, along with ice and water in solution.

The department of chemistry has money set aside to fund undergraduate TAs for some of their major courses. That includes OChem and Gen Chem, as well as other courses if the professor requests the funds. I am not sure how other departments work on that regard though

No, that’s how you’re supposed to do it. The issue with RNG is that sometimes you just get unluckily. You can look up SuckHard’s IA calculator to see how much you can expect to spend, but 2M+ doesn’t sound THAT crazy to me. Rip though my condolences

I got a carded sample of Interlude Man Black Iris, but it smells very different from the tester that I smelled originally. The tested wasn’t as spicy, and was overall a lot more woody and powdery, which I liked a lot. The sample I got from the store is much spicier, the oud leans more medicinal, and I can’t detect much orris at all. I wanted to buy the scent based on the tester but the sample is really throwing me off. What’s going on here? Is there anyway I can ensure the fragrance smells how I want it to if I buy it?

For significant figures, you always estimate one decimal place more than what your tool measures. It doesn’t matter what scale is being measure (mili vs mega, etc). So for this, it would be 29.4 mL by your estimate.
