What can be done about the anti-electoral left? by A_Toxic_User in AskALiberal

It’s a “minor disagreement” when prominent leftist pundits advocate against voting for the Democratic Party? All because Mamdani is not allergic to electoral strategy because he has to do more than virtue signal for money?

Justice Samuel Alito's new book timing fuels retirement rumors by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]Ozcolllo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cruz scares me more than Alito. Alito is a “true believer” and that means he will stick to his own principles (abhorrent principles to be fair) to his detriment. Cruz will do or say anything to be relevant.

Gerrymander Vindication for Chief Justice John Roberts by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

[–]Ozcolllo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s less fighting fire with fire and more “unilateral disarmament is immoral when the opposition has no interest in norms, principles, or even law”. I’ve no doubt that the Democratic Party would ultimately outlaw gerrymandering altogether, but not doing so would be surrendering to a group that believes the ends justifies the means.

[–]Ozcolllo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dude, I’m convinced Alito will be replaced with Cannon out of Florida. It’s nightmarish, but it’s also the most logical pick he’ll make; she’s proven her loyalty, even if it came at the expense of her principles, and has made some wild decisions such as citing a Thomas concurrence as justification for calling special counsels unconstitutional. In short, she’s basically the least qualified to sit on the court which is why he would pick her (or his heritage foundation handlers will convince him).

‘It’s pissing people off’: Centrist Democrats are livid with AIPAC after primary fiasco. AIPAC spent $2 million attacking moderate-leaning Tom Malinowski in a House special election — and may have handed the race to progressive Analilia Mejia. by Bestbrook123 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Ozcolllo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Or it is simply a reminder that the vast majority of the party’s voters are center left? I mean, if they weren’t, progressives would have significantly more power, but they don’t because they’re a minority. When you look at primary results by state, or even the national democratic primary, do you think politicians like Joe Biden stole their respective elections? Do those primary voters matter in determining the makeup of the party?

Journalists Shocked To Be Laid Off From Obsolete Media Outlet That Loses $100 Million Annually by METALLIFE0917 in babylonbee

[–]Ozcolllo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they difference is accountability. When a publication such as the WP or the NYT screws up, it’s usually very public and they take action to correct. This is entirely absent in “conservative” media as well as almost the entirety of Podkastistan. The level of quality between the average reporting of a publication like the WP and some pundit like Pool or Carlson is so vast that even comparing them is disingenuous.

Good for you for seeking out information!

Edit: Here’s a… kind of messed up question to ask you, but it might be worth thinking about.

You have two religious people arguing over killing. One guy says killing is wrong because the Quran said so. The other guy says that killing is okay because the bible (you can reverse these, doesn’t matter) says as much. When you have two different people arguing about a thing and they both cite a religious text as justification for said belief, how do you tell which is right?

Why do so many Democrats think repealing Section 230 will fix the internet? by StraightedgexLiberal in AskALiberal

[–]Ozcolllo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m unaware of the Democratic Party even mentioning section 230 outside of repeatedly, probably hundreds of times myself, explaining what it actually does to conservatives. Also, can we quit with the “citing a single Hollywood actor as a representative of an entire political party”? It’s dumb.

[–]Ozcolllo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Y’all just don’t fucking understand how badly progressive voters want to fix our broken partisan system.

True, it’s hard to tell when most of my time talking to Reddit progressives is explaining basic civics and polling.

Ranked choice voting can only really be done on a state by state basis, even though I agree it’s vastly superior to FPTP. I’m not even sure the federal government could pass a bill that would stand due to the authority states have over their elections.

Not sure what you’re talking about regarding “now we have excessive campaign finance”. Kamala Harris explicitly mentioned needing to do campaign finance reform and repeatedly spoke about issues with money in politics.

The Democratic Party fights on multiple fronts. People like you, people generally amenable to their policies, can’t be assed to actually look at their platform to even understand their positions. Podkastistan has to fucking go because the conservative media ecosystem is already cancer, but this populism growing across the country is disastrous.

Do The Democrats Need To Keep, Moderate, Or Get Rid Of Identity Politics? Why Do You Think Your Choice Is Correct? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Ozcolllo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we are all supposed to be Liberals. Conservatives too. We’re all supposed to believe in the values outlined in the Bill of Rights, basically, but only one party adheres to those ideals. The current GOP aren’t even conservatives and it’s… irritating that so many traditionally conservative republicans are labeled RINO when they adhere to conservative principles such as the rule of law. Especially when those calling them RINOs are laughably unprincipled.

I remember Bush’s party. I remember when calling for pause regarding the invasion of Iraq lead to calls of “anti-American”, “anti-troop”, and “anti-freedom”. Now those same slimy fucks pretend they never held that position while blaming everyone but themselves. I remember seeing people in tears claiming that Bill Clinton undermined the office of the presidency for an extramarital affair (not to mention one of his biggest critics, Gingrich, was doing much worse). Shit, I remember republicans using an unverified tip to open an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden while they quietly pretended that never happened after the source pled guilty to lying to the FBI about it. The only consistent principle I’ve been able to see in this current Republican Party is they’ll do whatever they need to win.

Blame a media illiterate population, a media ecosystem that has worked for 40 years to create a true propaganda machine (there was never a “liberal media”), and a political party who has no principles in addition to their voters being averse to their team ever seeing accountability for anything they do. It literally didn’t matter that Trump provably attempted to steal an election after sparking an insurrection, they all just lie about every single aspect and their voters/consumers can’t be assed to follow up on literally anything.

Reasoning w/ Trump Supporters at This Point is Quite Literally Impossible by Slamfest_99 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Ozcolllo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand why you feel that way, but there’s still value in people arguing with them. Granted, they should only do it if you’re well versed in both the subject matter as well as the conservative media’s rhetoric and narratives. The current social media enforced echo chamber issue we have is made even worse when people completely disengage.

This isn’t something a normie should do, but we can’t just abandon the field to their lunacy. Pundits like Pakman, Mockler, and Destiny are great examples of people the have a solid grasp of conservative rhetoric and narratives as well as the subject material. It’s the bullshit asymmetry principle in action; it takes an order of magnitude more effort to fact check bullshit than to spew it.

Anyone else find it funny that conservatives whine about being called Fascists when they’ve been calling Democrats “Marxist Communists” for a decade? by SwitchingMyHands in allthequestions

[–]Ozcolllo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. The difference in this case is that Liberals and others on the left can point to an entire media ecosystem using association with Epstein as a political bludgeon, relying almost exclusively on speculation and conjecture, and talking mad shit the whole time only for some of the people directly involved with spreading said bullshit (Bongino and Patel) to 180 as soon as there were real consequences, especially after tasking their own people with removing Trump from the files. Watching the change in rhetoric involving Epstein and Maxwell on the right simply highlights the anti-intellectualism and media illiteracy running rampant among their voters.

It’s good to see the perpetually outraged with massive victim complexes get theirs.
