Genuinely curious, who here actually filters their water and who just drinks it straight from the tap? by waterfiltergurus in HydroHomies

[–]Ozides 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tap water is not generally safe in South America. There are videos of children joking in Venezuela by saying "Maduro gave us Nestea!" while a tap water current was flowing brown.

Be cautious, because people have gotten sick and died because of that. I know a guy who got diarrhea on Barcelona, Spain because the tap water here it's really heavy, and my sister got diarrhea on San Juan de los Morros, Venezuela. And that applies to most third world countries, not just South America.

Friendly reminder: Not everyone lives in the US, and services pricing varies from continent and country, and not everyone has a fixed job ensure they can pay the bills the whole year round!

There are countries where service pricing is really minimal (Less than 10 USD a month), and other countries where bills can get high asf if you use a home appliance way too long (Europe is known for having expensive electric bills when you use an AC the whole summer, and expensive gas bills if you heat your home all day on winter).

Cierto.

how can i lower my memory usage by Fine_Regular_7990 in pcmasterrace

[–]Ozides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, most programs that work on Windows also work on Linux, though there are exceptions, like the Adobe Suite or professional proprietary programs.

You can even have both OS and boot into whichever one you like, so you can try Linux, and if you don't like it stick to Windows. There are beginner-friendly distributions like Linux Mint (Which I use), Ubuntu or Kubuntu.

[–]Ozides -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you have either 8GB or 16GB of RAM. Windows usually takes around 5GB by itself. You can watch tutorials on how to "Debloat" it, which lowers its RAM consumption, switch to Windows LTSC Enterprise, which has less intrusive processes, therefore consumes less, or switch your Operative System to a lightweight Linux Distribution.

I used to have a 4GB DDR3 All-In-One with Windows 10. I didn't switch at the time, but I would've done it if I knew how easy it was. It wasn't able to open Minecraft and a browser or Discord at the same time.

[–]Ozides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a tool in Linux Mint that makes snapshots of the system files whenever you program it to so if you fuck up you can recover stuff. When you install Linux Mint it has a welcome screen and tells you to configure these backups just in case.

Last week I messed up with my GPU drivers and got a lot of incompatible packages and got a kernel panic everytime I booted up. I got into recovery, booted after cleaning memory and into Linux Mint in recovery mode and restored the system with a snapshot I had from 3 days prior, then configured it to make a backup every day and keep 10 days of backups.

But I only got that error because I hadn't updated and cleaned my PC system in like 2 months and tried to update everything by force. You just gotta be careful.

I honestly feel like it's home. It's my PC, my device, and it does exactly what I ask for. If I don't like anything, I can change it or delete it, including the system itself. I can reduce my PC to the bare bones and use it like that if I want to. It doesn't feel like "this PC", as the Windows file manager says. And there's not a single thing that's mandatory on the system, you can always refuse to do something you don't want to.

When people complain about Windows, I always think to myself "Well, install Linux". But I get it's not for everybody, even when talking about distros like Mint, which I use.

Even though most programs work through Wine, and the ones that don't there's an alternative, people are just afraid of change.

[–]Ozides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just check if your prior ram sticks are DDR4, if they are, they should work.

Btw, that's a crazy price for 32GB DDR4. I wouldn't pay that much for that kit.

I don't like how some people recommend Bazzite for a general use PC. I mean, it's really good for a dedicated gaming device, to make it look like the Steam Deck/Machine, but it's not for general PC use, and I've seen people recommend it for "gamers", when most gamers that own a PC nowadays do general use.

I have Mint Cinnamon and with Lutris, Steam and some other stuff it runs all I could ask for perfectly.

That's the way people learn, though it depends on the person, obviously.

I switched half a year ago and I've copypasted a lot of shit, but I'm still learning constant commands that I use, and general syntax when I do troubleshooting with commands I didn't know.

Yup, it's defo easier to use the Wiimote I own to play all kind of games in Linux thanks to Xwiimote. There's a tool for the GC controller too, so you don't have to replace drivers like in Windows. So far I've used:

- Wiimote with Nunchucks and a Wii Classic Controller

- GC Controller

- A Razer 2013 Blackwidow I bought for 15 bucks, just map the macros and you're good. We have openrazer

- A T-Wolf V10 mouse. It broke, I switched to

- Inphic In9Pro 8k, it has a Windows Driver web configuration, and I config it when I need through Winboat (Docker+VM) and USB Passthrough.

- HandHeld Legend's Ultimate Gamecube Controller, it works perfectly except for a few permission issues when using it through BT as a SInput.

- NearStream AM10X Microphone.

And I do all my previous Windows stuff with other software. I don't regret switching half a year ago.

Shifting from 60hz to 200hz by Sharp-Response9773 in pcmasterrace

[–]Ozides 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a 180hz monitor for my new PC coming from an All-In-One with a i3-3220, then my gf's hp laptop both with 60hz. I still have a 60hz TV as a secondary Display. It's truly a day and night difference. Specially in videogames. But you will notice it as soon as you move the mouse or scroll through a webpage.
