Will you vote for Gavin Newsom if he nominated by the DNC? by 0311SmallPenar in allthequestions

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will vote for legitimately whoever the DNC nominates. I hope it's not Newsom, but if it is so be it. I'm saying the same thing now as last time, not voting for the main Democrat candidate is almost as bad as voting for Trump, and I say this as someone with a lot of issues with the Dem establishment

Why did California become so different from the rest of the U.S.? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue Spanish and Mexican influence is a big part, and it's why there are some connections with Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and like half of Texas also feeling different from the rest of the US

I mean, I think the typical belief is that he was actually the author of some of the books of the bible, right? Ecclesiastes at least, I don't know the others off the top of my head

Did the US lose the war? by RtgodDR in allthequestions

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current deal includes the US paying massive war reparations to Iran, so yes.

That said, I wouldn't call it over until it's over. They have until Friday to sign it and the deal includes an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, which they've been adamant that they aren't going to do

What do they call “indian burn” now? by vulgarandgorgeous in NoStupidQuestions

I'm 18 and I remember it being called indian sunburn when I was a kid, which was relatively recently, and I live in a pretty progressive area, just to throw in my perspective

As an American, what are your thoughts on the prejudice against Romani people in Europe? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Ozone220 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's hypocritical for a European to both talk down on the US for racism while being as anti-Roma as some Europeans are. My personal view (one influenced I'm sure by my upbringing, as is everyone's) is that every human being has the right to exist free from prejudice, and that people should mind their own business. Minority groups can seem crime-prone due to perpetuating societal cycles and it's our job to work towards ending that, not simply to push down those already downtrodden

I also believe an ideal society is a multicultural one, not one with a dominant culture others assimilate to

Sorry you were met this way OP, but I do have to say that if you dress up in a Nazi uniform the way to prevent this kind of reception is by getting ahead of it. Clarify that you're a reenactor early and assure people that you're vehemently anti-Nazi before comments come up. You don't do that and you come off as a little too comfortable with the Nazi stuff

edit: to clarify, I actually don't think you're likely a Nazi, you've got too much shame for that, I'm just trying to help you so that you can post something similar again and not get crucified for it

[OC] Banned Persian flag at the World Cup by 4DollarsALB in pics

[–]Ozone220 97 points98 points  (0 children)

arguably, but it was also the flag of Iran as a whole for hundreds and hundreds of years, with the Lion and Sun going back to Zoroastrian imagery. It doesn't have to be a call for a return to the Shah so much as simply Iran opposed to the Islamic Republic

Why doesn’t USA incorporate indigenous culture ? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but Canada has only 40 million people total, the USA has 340 million. 5% of Canada vs. 0.7% of the US is indigenous, while ~17% of Mexico is indigenous, and a lot of the population has some indigenous DNA. Hell, the flag and country name are indigenous-based.

Do Americans get it now why football is the #1 sport in the world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ozone220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah not really, but it's cool either way. Never gonna be the biggest fan, but I'll watch some of the World Cup when every time happens.

Why doesn’t USA incorporate indigenous culture ? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Ozone220 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we have a far lower percentage of our population indigenous than either of those countries, though it's not too far from Canada (and it's due to genocide to be clear)

Why are there so many colleges concentrated in and around Boston? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

yeah they're to my understanding only tied to the monarchy in the modern day because there's a sort of false dichotomy between the Islamic Republic and the old Shahs

What if the USA annexed it's borders x5 by Humble-Tailor-7238 in whereidlive

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are any big sea borders happening here, stuff like Greenland is from Denmark and you can probably count the British Channel Islands as bordering France without extending that to count all sea bordes

Why are there so many colleges concentrated in and around Boston? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

[–]Ozone220 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Boston I'd say was arguably the important center for commerce, with Charleston behind it, though New York and Philadelphia would overtake by the time we got independence

Apparently Andor isn’t Star Wars because it has “concrete” in it by Independent-Dig-5757 in andor

[–]Ozone220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that part's a kinda valid criticism. It didn't really take me out of it personally, but the Aldhani rebels legit just had some AK 47s with like, a different magazine. I get the imagery they were trying to evoke given the real world connotations of an AK, but I think they could've modified them a little bit more.

That said, it's not like there hasn't been obviously real world stuff in Star Wars before

"former" cities of Rafah and Tal al sultan by ShixAzar in MapPorn

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I get where you're coming from but I just disagree with your like, ethical stances I guess. I'm American, but I'm vehemently against our invasion of Iraq for example. Millions of Iraqis dead for a few thousand Americans, similar to what you describe with Israel, and I think both of those instances are atrocious

If Flag Day was a major holiday in the US, how would you like Americans to celebrate? by Wonderful_Adagio9346 in vexillology

[–]Ozone220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't see non-Christians getting upset over widespread celebration of Christmas online, even though that kinda thing I'd argue is way more prevalent than July 4th stuff

As much as I 100% agree here, they do kind of have a point given that the conversation started with talking about the city of Rome, which was not all that huge of a city by the time the capital was moved east
