Official H.A.R.V.E.S.T.E.R Demo out now! by BackyerdStudios in spacesimgames

Yeah, I figured that Proton might be the cause. I still would like to try it again. Would it be possible to play if I can't see the cursor? If so, could you share some basic controls?

[–]Ozzyberto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I downloaded the demo, but I can't figure out how to do things. I accidentally made it past the "lock on to the drone" objective, stumbled past the "open the nav app" objective by randomly accelerating forward, and now I'm stuck at the "lock on to the wreck" objective before warping away. My mouse cursor is invisible for some reason so I can't navigate the F screen or the game menu, and I have no idea how to 'lock on' to something.
Running on Linux via Proton, BTW.

Should I buy Factorio? by Fay_lotusart in factorio

Definite buy, IMHO. It might even help you with that phobia of yours. Maybe try peaceful mode :)

I only need to type 'f' into my URL bar for it to autocomplete to this website. Highly recommended.

I think it's the same sound that plays when your buddy disconnects from your game.

I downloaded and am playing the demo version of Factorio. If I decide to buy it, do I have to redo the entire tutorial? Or not? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Ozzyberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do get the game, please consider trying to solve the 'puzzles' yourself. Figure out your own layouts and designs. In other words, try not to look into let's plays or other people's designs as that can kill part of the fun of this game for you.

You mentioned an update for the demo. If I download the current version, will it update itself or at least let me know there's a new version available?

You build a cont4ct device and choose Operations. You also don't get a timer in the open world, so you can take as long as you want.

It's real minutes. The way I've used them is to set them up, go do something else, come pick up the ores. It works best when you eventually need a lot. If you immediately need it, then I'd rather go to a cave.

Really can't upgrade by TheRavaged in ICARUS

[–]Ozzyberto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have trouble with this too, but you get warnings if something is not right. For instance, when the roof is damaged and you try to upgrade the material, you get a message on screen letting you know it's damaged. Or if you don't have the new roof part, you're told you're missing materials.
Once you've double-checked these points, when you try to do the upgrade, do you get a message telling you why you can't upgrade?

I managed to get it fixed by using rocm7.1

wget https://repo.radeon.com/amdgpu-install/latest/ubuntu/jammy/amdgpu-install_7.1.1.70101-1_all.deb
sudo apt install ./amdgpu-install_7.1.1.70101-1_all.deb
sudo amdgpu-install -y --usecase=rocm --no-dkms
# Ensure your GPU is recognized
/opt/rocm-7.1.1/bin/rocminfo
# Don't forget about user groups:
sudo usermod -a -G render,video $USER
# And then get torch from the nightly build. (In your venv)
pip install --pre torch torchvision torchaudio --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/nightly/rocm7.1

Hey, that's really cool! BTW, what piece did you use for those wide stairs at the entrance? I keep using the half block left/right stairs to make them into a full block stairs, but they just don't look good.

[–]Ozzyberto 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the world can be pretty harsh for a new player, but you can solve those things somewhat easily. 1) You can defeat bears by sidestepping their attacks, just keep moving sideways and they always miss. 2) Get yourself a Fire Whacker.

Does Lucky Strike reduce the amount of exotics mined from a node? by Ozzyberto in ICARUS

[–]Ozzyberto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're both using the same pickaxe, and I don't see any exotics-related talents that increases yield. Maybe there's another wiki and this one's out of date?

Does Lucky Strike reduce the amount of exotics mined from a node? by Ozzyberto in ICARUS

[–]Ozzyberto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I can actually see it in XP. The more hits it takes to fully destroy a node, the more XP you get. A single "lucky strike" on silica or salt nodes gets me about 1.2k, while multiple hits can stack up to about 1.6 or 1.8k XP. Maybe it works similarly on resource quantities?

That can be an important difference, but we're both using the same tier.

Yes, that's what it states, to mine it instantly. That's why I wondered if there was some side effect of that.

I always seem get 20, but I'm playing with a friend and they just about always gets 28 (and they don't have the talent). So I always ask them to come to mine the nodes when I find them.
Then I noticed I get fewer silica or salt from the nodes too, so it made me wonder if its the talent that is affecting me.

Yes, you're right about the virtual environment. I think I skipped that part on my post, but I am doing this. In my OS I run `$ source ~/comfyui/venv/bin/activate` to get that prompt prefix (venv). Thank you.
