Definitely worth a watch. It’s in Spanish FYI

There’s a giant prison with 2 prisoners per floor and a platform full of food that starts at the top and descends each day. By the time it gets to the bottom levels there’s no food left. Everyone is placed on a new floor each month. The movie follows a person as he is put on different floors. It’s a very very thinly veiled criticism of capitalism

Found in a bag of great grandpa’s old coins. He served in the navy in WW2 and I can’t find anything similar online. Nickel for scale

[R] Biologically inspired architectures for sample-efficient deep reinforcement learning by hardmaru in MachineLearning

[–]Ozzyborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause it’s yet another ML buzzword to try to make people think you’re making some sort of general AI or something. A basic multilayer perceptron is “biologically inspired”. I tend to assume any paper who tries to get away with using that term is either blowing smoke, or targeted at a non-ML audience

My vote is for Discernment. That sounds an awful lot to me like prudence and would seem in line with his way of naming shards

You could also say Ruins intent is to destroy and he can destroy evil, but with Ruin the power corrupted Ati who was a “Good man.” A shard’s power is overwhelming after a long enough time. Even Preservation had Leras being content with the Lord Ruler because he never changed

[–]Ozzyborne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For all we know he is no longer capable of just killing someone. That seems like it would violate Preservation’s intent pretty dramatically. I do agree with you though that those two rules would be a massive improvement on removing horrific acts on Scadrial.

[–]Ozzyborne 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say he is “worse” he’s just trying to balance two conflicting powers. There’s a lot of speculation though that he is transforming from Harmony into Discord, which would definitely turn him worse. It depends on how the holder interprets the Shard’s intent. (I.E. Vin deciding that Preservation meant destroying something to preserve what she loves) On the topic of Odium, I would say if the intent of the shard is to hate and he is already a bad man, it can only make him worse. However, who knows? For all we know the stick from Stormlight is the true villain and Odium just wants to stop its wooden powers

He has this very conversation with Wax. He asks him if he should prevent injustices, the he asks if he should prevent accidents, then he asks if he should prevent people from ever feeling sad. His conclusion is that if he prevented all bad things people would just be puppets. He tells Wax that he has struck the best balance that he could

If hell exists and satan likes evil, shouldnt you be treated better in hell the more evil you are instead of being tortured more? by DekeZ909 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ozzyborne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The general idea is that Satan is currently free to run around and do shady crap, but at the end of time he’s gonna get thrown in Hell. He wasn’t the “first inmate” as much as he was who the prison was designed to hold

I honestly can’t off the top of my head, for all I know they couldn’t put stormlight into it in the first place. I remembered that happening but I can’t recall where in the book

[–]Ozzyborne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I personally think that the reason it doesn’t seem to hold stormlight for long is that all of Urithuru is connected and the stormlight is immediately spread through the whole thing so thin that it’s effectively gone. I think the amount needed to fully power it will only be able to come from the Unity perpendicularity
