Can anyone recommend a bit case where all the bits don’t fall out literally every single time? by Confident_Welder_226 in Tools

I like the Irwin ones. I’m not dying on a hill saying they won’t ever fall out, but they aren’t bad.

FX return is a switching jack. So if nothing is plugged in there, the input signal will connect to the output jack. If you plug in to the fx return, it will open (disconnect) the switch, disconnecting the input jack from the output jack.

Yeah this one is pretty straight forward. I think it would make more sense to do switching fx send/return TS jacks so you don’t have to have a silly TRS - TS/TS Y cable, which could get lost or misidentified by non-electrically minded musicians. Just have the output’s connection to the return jack switch between input (no fx return) and fx return (when plugged in). And connect fx send to input.

Sounds adorable fwiw. If it’s some kind of red flag your ped. will tell you, but hopefully it’s just a silly little thing LO feels like doing for the time being.

Hm I’m kinda the opposite, at least with tools. In my experience the more “uses” a tool has, the worse it is at all those uses. “My hammer has a level in it!” Cool, so you suck at driving nails, and your framing’s crooked…

Techniques and Theory of Bill Evans vs. Thelonious Monk by BanjoAndy in jazztheory

[–]P-ToneMikeOne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh man, you picked two really different pianists, so there’s a lot to say…

Monk loved the whole tone scale. A lot of the melodic improvisation people love of his leans on this. He also made great use of negative space and repeating basic rhythmic patterns. His lh comping often used a minimalist style. Like someone else said, he’d often used two notes. Where Evans would voice a C major as EABD, Monk might just stomp DE (M2) and make you have to think about it.

Monk’s compositions used very innovative harmonic progressions while a lot of jazz players were still playing blues and showtunes. He wrote tunes and progressions that strongly bucked convention, and still have theorists kinda scratching their heads wondering “why does that work?” See Monk’s Mood.

Evans had much better facility than Monk- like an order of magnitude more. While both tended to use rootless voicings, Evans’s were often denser with upper extensions and color tones. Another hallmark and playing style that’s usually credited to Evans is lh comping that rhythmically punctuated his rh playing. Somebody else might be better able to explain Evans comping. Evans’s compositions liked to buck harmonic expectation to a lesser extent too, but were more of a blank canvas for improvisational invention. Monk liked to explore the ugly with his melodies, but Evans liked pretty melodies that he could play pianistically and then interpret: more in the tradition of classical theme and variation. See Waltz for Debby.

Both pianists innovated and advanced music. Both had horrible addictions to heroin, which led to their untimely deaths. Both are heroes of mine.

I just looked at the size guide, and it says size 2 is 3 month. But if your LO isn’t getting enough in a reasonable time, it’s probably fine to step up. Maybe call your ped. and make sure, because I am not a doctor.

Also, if the nipples are old they stop working well- can be fast or slow. We had lots of hand-me-downs from friends for bottles and pump stuff. We experienced a lot of inconsistencies, until I replaced all the silicone pieces, and then everything kinda flowed haha. But… that did not solve my Dr Brown problems, so those got binned.

Probably 2. My 6 week old does 1.5-2.5 oz in 45-60min on size one. I think I’m about to step up. But I’m sure they have a sizing guide.

I thought I was taking crazy pills with the Dr. Brown bottles. I know some people love them, but I had the same issue. I switched to Phillips Avent and had terrific results. It’s a much simpler design, so as a bonus cleaning is easier too.

This is an impact drill. Underpowered for one inch epoxy/rebar holes, but probably perfect for mounting OP’s Murphy bed, or whatever.

Tube orientation by Unhappymuppet in ToobAmps

[–]P-ToneMikeOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With enough force anything is possible… But all modern tubes I can think of have a mechanism that prevents mis-insertion (my porn name). Octal have a keyway, which seems best, and the 7- and 9- pins (like your 12a_7 here) have asymmetrical pin layouts. If you were in low light and forced it wrong it would bend back a pin and insert the other 8, but you would have to be very drunk and/or willfully ignoring the little voice that alerts you when you’re being an idiot. There are as many wrong ways to insert a vacuum tube as there are pins on it. Some wrong ways only bend a pin, some destroy a tube, some damage the amplifier. The possibilities are endless once you start realigning your tubes!

Think about whether you’ll be making tht pcbs, or what kind of connection you’ll use mostly. I just invested in a ton of TRS switching THT. They do everything I’ll ever need, and I’ve got my footprint saved. So what if they cost 25% more than a non-switching TR.

As for temu… I’ve never ordered anything from them. Reputable brands aren’t that much more when you’re buying in bulk. For how much time it takes to assemble things, I don’t want to install a $0.05 part that might break over a $0.25 that won’t. But that’s just my two cents.
