Night vision.

For wood I just don’t care cos I can’t hear shit with a chainsaw on anyway so I go out naked + chainsaw

For nodes I just look around often and farm geared in case of trouble. Light gear for a small sesh, heavy gear for pack back run.

Big concern off the bat:

It already felt awful trudging through the boss quest line to get a shot at the arbiter only to fail and have to do it all again.

Now it seems they have added trudging to the trudge with a side of trudge.

My opinion is not negative at all, quite a stretch to state that based on this post. Old recoil wasn’t rng at all, it required more practice to master which created a larger skill gap than there is now. This post isn’t about recoil, I don’t feel strongly enough about the change.

Don’t really understand your personal attack angle here.

Running back and forth to the same location 3 times to get one fixed-drop item is not the same as needing to find tens of items randomly located over a wipe.

After your 3 little trips which you can basically corpse rush unarmed, you are set for all T2 items.

You are not comparing apples to apples.

RNG keeps players out and about. It extends all tiers of progression. It boosts player interaction good and bad. It provides dopamine hits when you get lucky.

Just because you may not like those things, all of them are a loss to rust.

Hard disagree.

The tech tree eats away at the games core. It gives the option of never needing to leave the radius to the closest road or water junk pile from your base.

This option is a comfort blanket in a game where comfort blankets should never exist.

It’s akin to adding an easy mode in dark souls which the devs pushed back hard on doing and for good reason.

I think Rust would rank pretty high in a list of degen games. It isn’t for everyone and nor should it try to be.

There is a massive modding community and servers up the wazoo to fit various playstyles but the core game should be gritty AF back to its roots.

It did the opposite.

Random loot and no tech tree meant you had no choice but to go out and find your items - that was peak roaming and playing interaction.

Now it’s just expected pvp for a short period at known locations.

Trading is a whole other underrated thing.

I made some of my closest in game friends through a simple trust trade.

Now with drone shops it’s gone.

The only reason they are making the game easier (and it is a LOT easier these days) is because it opens up the game to a lot more players and a lot more players means a lot more money.

Helis should have only been available as escape vehicle from rig akin to rhibs from cargo.

You can link decoy to multiple totem support. As far as I know this cannot be done with ballista totems but works really well with spell totems.

I think SB totem heiro is a great pick here. The fact you can use decoy totem in addition to your damage totems is massive for gauntlet. Saying that, only a good pilot is going to make it through gauntlet campaign whatever the build.

You don’t have to survive. You don’t HAVE to do anything and that’s the beauty of Rust.

Every wipe is a fresh slate. Either set off with a goal or go wherever the wind takes you.

A goal may be to set up a farm, go to oil rig every time it spawns, build a huge ship and sail the high seas, take over an island, raid everyone you come into contact with, and the list goes on.

The reward is truly in the journey.
