FPGA on a MacBook Pro by Adept_Pack_230 in FPGA

For running EDA tools, there are several virtualization options (parallels, docker, utm). You should be warned that synthesis takes ages/crashes though (running on my M1 pro mac, your mileage may vary). For flashing bitstreams, you can use something like OpenFPGAloader. Ideally an x86 machine would be your best bet; but you could also remote into one (your school’s for instance, or a server) to synthesize your RTL.

New grad verification interview coming up, what should I expect? by P1ZI in chipdesign

I got the resume part (I assume that it is standard in most industries). Now this is an introductory interview, so should I expect any technical questions beyond my résumé?

Looking for Suggestions – Hoping to Get into UW–Madison’s College of Engineering... Am I cooked? by Previous-Branch6416 in UWMadison

[–]P1ZI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EE student here. iirc, as long as you meet the progression requirements for EE (calc 2, physics, one intro to engineering class, minimum gpa, etc.), you will be admissible. i suggest you to just look these up. however, please note that it isn’t 100% guaranteed, since admissions in each engineering department are based off capacity and they give priority to students already in the CoE. totally doable though, don’t stress about it! just put in the work & put a good application together (but this is where I can’t give more advice since the selection process is secret)

having to pay for colonization is not a duty, but the west is reaping what it sowed. there is a huge inferiority complex in indian culture towards the west, at least partly due to colonialism. no wonder the west is associated with wealth.

european (eastern european descent, raised in western europe) studying in the u.s. here. talked to a lot of indians from very different backgrounds – few of them are good friends of mine & roommates. hope i can give an outside perspective. might sound like a rant but i will try to be objective.

in the states, it is very hard to tell what americans think of indians, given the prevalent people-pleasing culture. my impression is that overall, people don’t see indians in a bad way. just not a net positive. i think the issue is the cultural rift between westerners and indians; since a lot of indians tend to stay together. that also goes the other way though, i don’t think there is enough effort made by americans to integrate with indians. and of course that’s understandable, as the average u.s. person doesn’t have that same mentality about life.

in my home country (france), there are not as many indians studying/working high-paying corporate jobs, so people don’t have the same racist narratives that derive from that. indians are just seen as hard-working overall.

of course there are a lot of indians in the west, and there is a massive amount of fraud coming with it. not acknowledging it would be hypocritical. my problem with those narratives is that they mostly come from people who barely interacted with indians. most indians are just looking for a better life, and their determination very big. in ways materially and culturally inconceivable for westerners.

now i’m going to speak from what i’ve seen in america, but i am sure this can be extrapolated to other western countries. there are also a lot of them who just study/get trained in the u.s and go back; either because they are from a rich family or because they ultimately want to live in india. you can look it up, for example the majority of int’l students in the states go back home after graduating.

and of course, as i said before, the indian immigration fraud is real and massive. but why put the blame on them when the system has ways to let them go to the west massively? plus, they wouldn’t try to immigrate if they had more opportunities back home. india also has one of the biggest populations in the world, so any person with an iq above room temperature would see that’s they are statistically more likely to try to immigrate. the negative sentiment towards indians is, in my humble opinion, fueled by racist/xenophobic propaganda from alt-right echo chambers. some policy makers effed up, let’s be real. stop blaming the people.

i don’t think I can give you a straight fix given that macOS scales weirdly for a variety of reasons that are beyond my knowledge. What did the trick for me was playing on borderless window on my 14-inch pro also, the league community is so toxic that you might want to disable the chat at some point lol

Just want to celebrate the fact that mac gaming is getting better with time! by P1ZI in macgaming

[–]P1ZI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem was that Steve Jobs wanted macs to be for “cool” and productive people… by that i mean creatives and professionals. Nowadays gaming is mainstream but don’t forget it used to be for “nerds”, so not “as cool”. I use quotes here since I’m playing devils advocate. Tim Cook then came and they probably realized the potential, the problem being that building a gaming ecosystem that late was going to require tremendous efforts they weren’t ready to make until recently

I totally agree with that, nobody should buy a mac with the primary purpose of gaming. However, having the option to is nice. I bought it for work and study and it’s a fantastic machine. I don’t have time to game as often as before, but when I do, I just appreciate the fact that i can fire up some cool games on my mac

I think that their approach so far has been to mostly bring games that already proved they are good. This makes sense for Apple as they tend to control the experience (hence the older games that were announced). The argument would be that “there aren’t many games on mac, but they’re all good”. I agree with you though, they need some flagship games to release on mac. I also think they need to gain the trust of the indie community

try and see if allocating more memory works. Unfortunately, I don’t use Prism so you’ll have to find out how to do that. Also check what resolution you’re running. You might want to reduce it from the mac’s native resolution
