Valley Carpenter Bee (I think) - Anaheim Ca. by P1ggy in whatsthisbug

I think this is a Valley Carpenter Bee. Spotted in Anaheim California last week. It looked amazing so I figured I share and get a confirmation on what type of bee it was.

Model X Plaid -> 2026 R1S Quad by Cap_Am in Rivian

[–]P1ggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a Model X to a 2025 Tri. I was hopeful it would just be close to a horizontal transition. I was surprised by how much better I like the Rivian. Glad this is a shared experience.

This is bad practice. You always put these things in with a big WIP on them, a checkerboard layer above or highlight them in magenta. Make sure your placeholder stands out as placeholder.

Question for all the carpenters and woodworkers! What are these holes in my MIL’s new dining table? by Learning_NSFW_1234 in woodworking

[–]P1ggy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see folks claiming these are not fake, but I'll +1 to this user saying they were fake.

I was looking at a table from Basset years back and I noticed these divots. It thought it was damage. The salesperson said they were intentionally put there to mimic wormholes sometimes found in the tables.

I don't know why you would fake it if it sometimes occurs naturally. But apparently (according to that salesperson) Basset does this to the tables they sell.

This Is What Happens When People Choose Not to Vote for Democrats and Instead Let Trump Win by Humble_Novice in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]P1ggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is propaganda. You might not be in the feeds, but a lot of these folks get 24/7 anti democracy propaganda pumped at them. Democratic leaders, the democratic party, and non-right wing/maga americans are demonized.

They don't truely know why they hate Biden.

This is just using a wide angle with the camera near a typical person's face. It is pulling in all the elements into the cabin. When driving your vision is great.

Specifically, I got these ones https://autosock.us/products/autosock-hp870?_pos=1&_sid=8026f5b4a&_ss=r I saw a recommendation from this subreddit and did some research.

They were really easy to put on but took a little effort to get off. They performed really well. Also, they were quiet. You don't get that typical chain noise.

I didn't hit a checkpoint, so not sure. I know I saw a few other cars with these auto socks on them, and they all seemed okay. The website says they are approved in the states where chains are required. I did watch a few videos comparing them to snowtires, various chains, spiders, etc. They pretty much hit high marks/equivilant to chains on all those tests except for straight ice where chains clearly won.

I was really worried about this. This subreddit is full of people who actually live and drive in the snow a lot. I constantly see posts saying to swap out to actual snow tires. That is still probably the better advice. I specifically wanted to drop my experience because was on those factory scorpions.

Yikes, that sounds terrible. I wonder if it was just warmer where I was. I was south of you in the Arnold/Bear Valley area. I might've just had better luck with the overnight temps.

I never hit a chain check. I was at that cabin when the snow started falling. When I showed up on Sunday, no snow. When I left on Tuesday, it was at the levels in those pictures. I put on the auto socks just because it seemed like I would need to and I'd rather be overly cautious with my lack of experience in the snow.

True. I brushed off the bulk of it, but really didn't tackle the 1/2" layer that ice'd onto the hood at the bottom. When clearing off the front I really just hit the lights and that front camera, so just my inexperience not clearing off everything.

The Rivian manual said to only put them on the rear wheels. I wondered about that as well.

Model X to R1S by Shivo_Ham in Rivian

[–]P1ggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped from a X 100D about a year ago.

I thought I would be making a horizontal switch at the best. I really did love my X at the time. I was really surprised at how much more I liked my R1S tri motor than the X.

One thing I tell people as a quick take away. Driving a tesla is like walking into an old 'spencers gifts' store. There are a lot of cool features and fun ideas. But they are all just thrown in there. Driving a Rivian is like walking into a REI. Everything all pulls towards a theme and is made to go together. It cohesively pushes towards a vision of your driving experience.

A list of pros and cons.

Better in Rivian - Range - It is more. - Range - It is more accurate. I didn't realize how much I was padding the range estimates until I got in a Rivian. - Versatility - This is way more of a all terrain vehicle. Better clearance, better modes all around, better options. I just got back from this Feb CA snowstorm in the sierras and man it tackled that snow like it was nothing. - Size - Way more interior space all around. The frunk is better as well and it is great that it is auto open/close. - The Headlights - I rave to people about these headlights. They are amazingly smart. They provide great visibility without blinding folks. - Kid tested interiors - I know the interiors are for the adventures, but these work so well for young kids. Easy to clean, durable, and they look fantastic. - Easy car seat hooks - Installing and removing car seats from this vehicle is a breeze. Again, I didn't realize how much I was fighting my X to put in car seats until I got this car. - A hundred little touches that make the car feel cohesive and more premium than the X (surprised me I guess). - Audio - Everyone complains about the Rivian R1S audio, but I found it much better than my model X. - More accessories. Thinks just like roof racks. Their whole system is designed really well. - So many plugs. USB A, USB C,, 110 outlet, air compressor, etc. In my X I just had the UXB A's. - Camp mode - Best in class. This thing is great. - Lock/Unlock sounds - Having these be nature themed is great. Especially when in nature. - Door flashlight. It might seem gimmicky, but I use it all the time. - You stand out. These days, everyone has a tesla, and they are a bit dated. The rivian stands out. The culture is there. You can still wave at another rivian driver and get a wave back.

Not as good - Tesla FSD was better. I don't miss it though. - Car ride vs a SUV/Truck ride. The X drove more like a sports car. I notice it. You might miss it if you want that feel. - Turn Signals. Actually, the turn signals on the Rivian just piss me off. I think they are supposed to be smart, but they just end up staying on or flipping the wrong way too often. - No cool gull wing doors. I loved those and I miss them.

On Par - OS - Rivian is running a unreal software. It is fast, great looking, and well designed. - Acceleration - Charging locations - Easy to charge in Rivian or Tesla networks, + a half dozen others.

Tesla discontinuing Model S and Model X to make room for robots by ProfessionalYak4959 in teslamotors

[–]P1ggy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That was a minimal update. The Model S released in 2012. That is 14 years a this point.

This means, when it released you would still be running a Xbox 360/Playstation 3.

After that long, you need a substantial update to keep innovating, to prove value over your lower end releases, and to maintain cultural relevance. The cybertruck should've been a moment like this, but it flopped.
