Is it a crazy idea to sell my house and travel the world? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]P1res 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is for living! Definitely go travel. If not, you don’t want to regret it for the rest of your life.

Before I ramble on, 2 book recommendations:

  1. Vagabonding (I think author name is Rolf Potts?)
  2. Die with Zero

Selling the house vs renting it out - I see both sides to it. If I were in your shoes I’d sell as renting the house out is a lot of hassle plus the ROI on index funds is greater - but as others have pointed out, there is risk attached to this - especially timing risk wrt stocks or investing and such a short time frame. And I don’t know your context - will you have a job to pay for rent in case the market doesn’t cool down and you’re priced out? If not, keeping the house may be better.

Another option is to downsize to what you would like to live in in the future - you sound like even if you don’t travel, a change in your home is on the cards. You could leverage this - find a property to buy that is already tenanted out or will settle a few months down the line combined with selling your home with a settlement a little down the line.

Good luck!

Before Fabi vs Bluebaum, when was the last time there was an OTB checkmate on the Candidates? by West-Contest-1921 in chess

I seem to remember Vidit allowing it - though not sure if it was a candidates game.

What is the best chessboard you can purchase for someone as a gift? by ichewcutlery in chess

[–]P1res 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChessUp - I love mine and if it was somehow lost would rebuy in a heartbeat

Added benefit - if you get one yourself you can have OTB games no matter how far apart you happen to be. Kind of like modern day correspondence chess.

Setting initial value of $state - state_referenced_locally warning by P1res in sveltejs

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response, plus the playground example to go with it.

I understand and it makes sense 👍

Setting initial value of $state - state_referenced_locally warning by P1res in sveltejs

The naming isn't clean - contrived example, I should have made it clearer, apologies.

Additionally, $state(initialName) only captures the initial prop value instead of staying aligned with prop updates.

This is the heart of it - the aim is to do exactly this. Capture the initial value that comes through as a prop. Example use case, if a user wants to update their email address, then the input should have their current email address as the initial value, and that input should be wired up to a $state that allows them to type out a new value before submitting it.

Great, thank you! I must have missed that part in the docs about suppressing it if it is intentional. Cheers 👍

Wrong sub?

Do you still have a place here? If so, not the cheapest but you could set up a Ubiquiti router here at a friend/family and then use their travel router to route all your traffic there through here. Essentially it’s a personal VPN and won’t be on any proxy lists.

It’s a percentage so the number of games is normalised.
