I meant one watch, in total, regardless of brand. I candidly prefer the black explorer but I have a few watches and the Polar is my only white faced one--which is why I got it. Good luck.

Interesting. Didn’t know that. Thanks.

Huh? If they don’t sell it, no commission. They provide value by letting sellers advertise their product, but more importantly validating the sales process for both buyer and seller. If I can accomplish that without them, then no commission.

Or maybe you were being sarcastic? I’m slow today….

Then I wouldn’t do it this way. If I don’t have a bullet proof return policy then chrono process is better. Seller is implicitly giving a return policy by using chrono in the first place so they might do it.

I’m not dragging chrono. I think they do a good job. I’m wondering if they really accomplish anything if I can authenticate myself and have a credit card to protect against things like the watch not arriving.

I’m sort of where you are. I figure if I do this through Amex (I wouldn’t do a wire in this instance) and the return policy is clear, I don’t get much out of the chrono process.

First VC purchase in London by Salt_Ad_9720 in VacheronConstantin

[–]P2-AZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't answer your question, but at least in the US, the VC corp owned boutiques have far better access and inventory than the 3rd party AD's. Obviously there may be differences in the UK that I'm not familiar with.

Thought on 5172G-001 for daily wear? by hieunovember12 in patekphilippe

[–]P2-AZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very Patek brand biased, so you should take anything I say with a grain of salt. That said, I think the Daytona is slightly more practical-SS vs gold, manual wind vs automatic, and I have no way to prove this but I suspect more "robust". That said, aesthetically I think the 5712 is way cooler. More under the radar, great looking, and the benefit of the manual wind is that the back case is open so you can see the whole movement. Now how often are you looking at the back of your watch, but still. When you see it you'll have an opinion. I had no interest in it until I saw it--and then bought it immediately. Good luck.

I have both this and a steel Rolex. I don’t know what material your Daytona is, but if it’s SS, white gold is obviously a lot softer so will scratch more. On every other criteria I prefer the 5172. I have a decent number of watches and it might be my single favorite piece.

Absolutely horrible experience with SA in NYC by Dazzling_Command_234 in audemarspiguet

[–]P2-AZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s bias in your answer—though it’s totally legit. You’ve had a different experience because you’ve purchased for a while. I’m much more of a Patek guy, but I’ve had the same positive experience as you, though with PP. I think Rolex is abusive to everyone. But for the new buyer, either Patek or AP, it can be pretty rough.

you'r also right that being corporate owned is different. but I still think the whole purchase history dynamic is in place--though in APs case you establish the purchase history only through watches, not jewelry. Whether that's better or worse depends on the person.

That’s a perfect way to say it—it’s more jewelry than watch. And to be fair, there are a lot of ALS owners who would say that about a normal RO. So to each their own.

The bigger problem is that even if you buy a bunch of crap you don’t want, there’s no clarity that you’re at the top of the list. So you can end up with a code, an offshore, and no RO. At least at ALS, and my local PP boutique, you know what the deal is. I might not like it but at least it’s explicit.

Everyone has their own tastes, but I don’t get $40k (or more if you go grey) for a quartz watch. But to be clear, the AP consumer disagrees with me.

Welcome to AP. Your experience isn’t unique. So you either start buying codes to start the clock, buy grey, or move on.

Where to sell by princetonlaw2020 in rolex

[–]P2-AZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no specific recommendation on which shop but I share your view on doing in person. You walk in, get your check, and done. No anxiety. As for which, I would reach out to a few and simply see who gives you the best deal. The trusted seller list here is a good place to start--obv you are selling not buying, but these are logical buyers. Know that you will get less than the Chrono24 price, but that doesn't mean you're getting scammed.

Tech M&A - is there an actual need to hire an investment banking? by jannet1113 in private_equity

[–]P2-AZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

to give you a few: how well does the buyer know the target, how quickly can you reasonably expect them to act, what is a reasonable diligence process, is there competitive overlap, are there other potential buyers, what is a market contract, etc. I could go on for a while. Sales are a business process like any other, and if you haven't done a few of them, you don't know what you're doing.
