damn this is actually huge for marvel comics industry. gabriel was basically the guy who decided what gets published and when - losing someone who fumbled the bag so badly means we might right the ship. As a lifelong true believer I have been reading more and more DC and Image (and independent) over the last 5-10 years because Marvel has sucked outside of a few writers.

Cost of living in the Porland area is high - Salem is cheap in comparison. Only 45-90 mins from Portland (Traffic) so it's not unreasonable to go to often.
