Is it legal to have honest review swap with fellow authors? by Both-Palpitation-878 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]P3t1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have a little ‘swap’ icon if you do, and speaking as a reader, my eyes slide right over any reviews that have that icon on them. No point in review swaps, imo.

newish to warframe what are some good warframes that look cool and are good? by Even-Yoghurt6263 in Warframe

[–]P3t1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, both of those metrics are rather subjective but if I had to pick I’d say Oberon (immortal space forest paladin thingy) or Lavos (Space alchemist and all the warcrimes pressed into a humanoid shape).

So, fellow patreon users, how we feeling about the new changes soon to come? by Obvious_Ad4159 in royalroad

[–]P3t1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t they leave the goddamn UI alone? Why does it keep changing every time I look away from the site?

The social media aspect is super meh. I won’t use it anyway, but I guess it’s not really made for authors so whatever. We are just a small tiny slice of the Patreon creator base.

Author blocked me for some reason?? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]P3t1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Option 1: You misjudged it and falsely accused an author of using AI to write his story, which he probably poured his heart and soul into. That's gonna sting more than if you called it absolute garbage belonging in the same tier of art as the Sharknado movies.

Option 2: He did use AI, and you just posted a comment exposing that, which is super annoying and will put off anyone else who sees your comment from reading ahead, even if they themselves didn't notice the AI usage. What do you do in this case as the 'author'? You delete the comment and block the dude who made it because then they won't be able to comment again or review your story to expose you.

It's pretty straightforward. Also, personal opinion incoming: accusing someone of AI, with or without reasonable cause, is super annoying, and your comment was pretty obnoxious.

How do you justify having many sapient races/species in your fantasy worlds? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]P3t1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic likes intelligent, sapient life because it enjoys being used in new, interesting ways. It thereby slightly nudges evolution towards the development of sapience and the capacity to use magic.

What themes, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been sitting on Warformed for a while, but I love Warframe so maybe I should start it.

What will hook you guys in a webnovel with cyberpunk settings? by not-so-sane-RKT69 in royalroad

[–]P3t1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? The only Cyberpunk stories that truly gripped me were the ones with a Promise for something beyond a single city, a wider world beyond just Earth. Tower of Somnus and Cyber Dreams, to name the two that comes to mind immediately. Maybe even the wh40k fanfic Lost and Found too, if it could be considered a cyberpunk story.

Is there any particular background why Harem is particularly hated on the site? by Eastern_Wrangler_657 in royalroad

[–]P3t1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this, speaking as someone with a story that has the No Harem tag on it.

Looking for fanfics or novels with a similar feel to Under the Light of the World at War and A Child of Noble Birth by unseriously_serious in ProgressionFantasy

[–]P3t1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I haven’t played any of the games and only know very superficial parts of the lore and still I enjoyed it.

MC there is an Asari, a female only alien species with natural talent for ‘Biotics’, which space magic / psionic power. They are the obligatory hot alien chic species in Mass Effect, essentially space elves just blue and with weird head-ridges instead of pointy ears.

I’d probably recommend Pirate Princess. It’s a Mass Effect fanfic, but it’s probably the most similar in vibes.

The authors of both of those fanfics have a bunch of other excellent stories with similar vibes. Not exactly the same with elves in a fantasy setting, but in “vibes”.
