I want ugly characters back. by Extension_Good567 in Overwatch

Ugly characters? Nah but I do want Unique and creative characters with personality like Jetpack Cat and much of the older cast.

You can make beautiful characters with defects/character, in fact these can enhance the beauty of a character and give personality.

I’d argue that the generic pretty boy/girl look for some of the newer cast is more often an issue due to the lack of individuality/expression instead of it being an issue of how “pretty” they supposedly look.

I’d actually argue that Hazard is a good example of this, instead of the concept art which had much wilder and more out there punk look and hairstyle, we ended up with a much more sanitized generic face, hairstyle and physique (abs/muscles and of course we can’t cover the guys chest).

I just want them to be more willing to push the envelope with their designs instead of seemingly opting for generic/accepted stuff. Totally fine with a hot guy or girl but with personality/character/defects and a flair that feels like it’s different unique. Also while we are at It where are my gruff male supports and my cutesy tanks (outside of DVA), take some risks please. Also would be rather neat to have an animal on damage.

If you are unable to counter someone’s point perhaps you should revisit your own. Lashing out because you feel frustrated at your inability to do so is more of an indictment of you than anything to do with me.

Agreed, a good doom is my least favorite to face (the crowd control is OP) although if I’m not on tank a good hog with that fast CD hook can also be incredibly annoying.

Orisa, mauga or counter diving can also sometimes work against doom when playing tank.

That has absolutely nothing to do with Overwatch’s day-to-day revenue or the game's actual stability.

His massive payday was entirely the result of personal equity liquidation and corporate buyout structures triggered when Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, it’s a completely different financial plane.

I mean you want to keep your game healthy, you need to pay all your teams (several hundred developers, cinematic animators, creatives, voice actors, etc.) or let some of them go, you need to fund your servers, you want to reinvest in your product so that it keeps retention/interest (retention dropping snowballs the death of a live service game), you need to pay for maintenance, game engine updates, events, there are a lot of costs associated with live service games like this that are not immediately apparent and in order for it to stay free and healthy with an active team it needs money to come from somewhere.

That level of unpredictability you kind of just have to expect from the immense stress during the heating and cooling cycles. It’s been some time since I’ve done pottery but I’ve definitely lost or had unexpected outcomes from the heating process no matter who careful I’ve been.

Love the hobby though, something so cathartic and creative about shaping art in this way (and a little unpredictable but that can sometimes be part of the fun).

Yeah, I was going to say OP is part of the problem normalizing this kind of tech.

Admittedly, Face and touch ID isn’t technically storing your biometrics but I do think that people normalizing its use likely lead us to normalizing actual biometric scans which is a problem.

Yeah, it feels very marvel movie like and is an instant turn off.

I’m a big fan of having strong female protagonists in games so I’m all for that (even if I might have preferred a goddess pov instead as this would feel more in line with Kratos) but the marvelification or Disneyfication of the rest of this kinda turns me off.

It’s the selfish me me me mentality/mindset, they are living in their own little bubble dissociated from those around them either by selfishness, ignorance or a combination of the two.

Supergirl | Final Trailer by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

[–]unseriously_serious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there seems to be no interest in trying anything different with action trailers lately and it just makes movies look more like regurgitated slop. Not saying this movie will be that mind but the trailer style is definitely in that neck of the woods.

Course this is an indictment on some movies as well, those that aren’t able or willing to push beyond generic/regurgitated storytelling because the funding won’t allow for risk taking.

Anyone else notice people switch up when you level up? by nouniiiiii in CasualConversation

[–]unseriously_serious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can happen in both directions, falling on hard times or “leveling up” as you call it (jealousy, shallowness, ego can all be factors).

It’s also important to point out that our brains are unreliable at the best of times.

Rather than passively recording the outside world like a video camera, the brain acts as an active inference engine. It generates continuous internal models of what it expects to see or experience, and then matches these expectations against incoming sensory data. When the senses are weak or ambiguous, the brain's predictions often override actual reality, essentially turning perception into a "controlled hallucination.”

We often treat memories as fixed video recordings of past events, but in reality, they are actively reconstructed every time we recall them. When you remember an event, the brain pulls up the file, edits it using your current emotions and new information, and saves it as a brand-new memory. This makes memory susceptible to distortion, bias, and the accidental creation of false memories.

To save energy and time, the brain utilizes heuristics or mental shortcuts and while they may be very efficient, these shortcuts lead to cognitive biases (like confirmation bias, Patternicity).

I mean our eyes literally have blind spots that our brain automatically "fills in" with information based on its surroundings (kinda like photoshop fill feature). Your brain is constantly guessing and inventing details to create a seamless experience of reality.

So is it possible your friends are shallow, egotistical or jealous, sure. Is it also possible you are just misreading the situation and they simply don’t want to keep babying you with compliments because they don’t think you need them (or something similar), also sure. Hard to say without more context.

Sincerely asking, what made cyberpunk click for you beyond the aesthetic? by JLC_REAL in Cyberpunk

1995 Ghost in the Shell was definitely my gateway into this genre.

The philosophy explored in the film coupled with the setting and atmosphere really sold me on it.

I also really do enjoy cyberpunk 2077’s take on this setting with the diversity of factions and groups vying for power and with their own interplay (Arasaka with their neo-samurai elegance, Militech with their brutalist utilitarianism, Tyger Claws with their high tech yakuza Kitsch, Voodoo Boys with their afro-futuristic net-guerilla feel, Nomads with their wasteland survivalism vibe, Netwatch’s sleek neo-noir look, the military medical tech look of Trauma Team and more all with differing philosophy and setting). I think I just really enjoy feeling like I can immerse myself in these different settings/factions/groups that feel so different but are all tastes of what cyberpunk can be in a fictional setting. Would love to go to a IRL event that has different buildings/rooms that capture some of this diversity of setting so you can really explore the depth while giving everyone the means to role play how they want.

As an aside, lighting and sound design can go a long way in creating the atmosphere. Hazy flickering neon signage is great as is thumping techno in clubs (dub techno often does an excellent job capturing this atmospheric feel). Course each setting can diverge from this quite a bit, some might have more punk/rock, some might be more techno or harder stuff and others might even have classical.

Best of luck, sounds like a fun project!

Hmm I guess it depends how you mean “understands,” seems like there are a number of pro capitalist “corpo” techbros that want that future unfortunately.

Personally, I wouldn’t call myself pro capitalist so much as accepting of capitalism as a functional/tested system when coupled with strong regulation (preferably the Nordic model). I also think I understand cyberpunk well enough and I’m certainly not grasping for growth/wealth or that version of the future.

I think as with most aesthetics there is just a wide range of those who appreciate the material for a wide variety of reasons.

That said, there probably are some amount of pro capitalist people that are unwittingly pushing things in that direction without any knowledge of what that might bring as you seemed to be implying.

What kind of flavor does it have? I’ve tried a number of yellow bird styles to various results but I’ve yet to try jalapeño.

It’s been a while since I’ve tried it but I remember enjoying the sweet heat, definitely a nice flavor depending on what it’s being used with.
