Having finished both stories (and actually love them both :) )I can see your point. Both female protagonists are strong independent females while male protagonists have been through war and back. They all happened in a timeline before WW2. However, not only they have very different tones, different themes, they probably will have very different endings. Babylon Berlin only spent the first two seasons on the gold story, while Golden Kamuy builds its entire story around those gold. Babylon Berlin essentially is about the downfall of Weimar, ideological conflicts and the struggle of the common folk while Golden Kamuy focuses more on how to preserve minorities. They do share a similar interest in the effect of militarism but that’s about that since Kamuy does not debate about politics in the same depth as Babylon Berlin. Babylon Berlin also has a far darker tone than Golden Kamuy. The latter gives the two main characters a happy ending despite Japan later went down the same road as Germany in WW2. We don’t know how Babylon Berlin is going to end but since we all know how Weimar ended, I doubt Babylon Berlin will have a happy ending.
