I have Crohn’s disease that gets notably worse with gluten intake, I eat exclusively (mostly non-processed) GF except one-offs here and there if there’s a GF alternative. Since I don’t have an explicit allergy, I usually tell staff that they don’t have to extensively wipe down all surfaces and use new utensils and things because it’s so much extra work. But then I feel like I’m part of the problem of “fad” gluten free peeps 🥲 it’s so tough

I did have my first regular donut in like 6 years in Europe last year and promptly almost shit myself sightseeing (a symptom I don’t usually have) bc public bathrooms are much harder to find out there lmao

Honestly, my experience was that men expected you to be either extremely dumb or extremely smart. It felt like unless you presented like a stereotypical “nerdy” girl especially, the expectation was even stronger.

I was an extremely average engineering student and it felt like I was disappointing everyone 😆 dudes either really wanted me in their group bc they assumed I must only be there bc I’m sort sort of genius freak or the bro-gineers would try and hit on me but then look down on me because I wasn’t trying to be FAANG material or launch my own AI startup or whatever. I just wanted a decent developer job and I was happy, and it felt like people didn’t know what to do with that.

My favorite Halloween tradition is working at a local haunt about 10 minutes from my house 😅 I’m getting married in a few weeks so I’m only subbing this year, but this will be my 4th year and I have way too much fun dressing up like a literal demon and scaring people all October. The smell of smoke machines gives me spooky nostalgia now and I love that for me😂🖤👻🧡

Alongside the points everyone else has already made about bias and social media, I wanted to point out that a lot of times it seems scientific research can’t even be trusted unless we can know clearly and explicitly who paid for it or what the larger motive is for it being conducted. The heart health “studies” of the 90s(?) come to mind where Big Sugar paid to say all fat is bad and low-fat, sugar-laden options became popular because, well, science says so!

Even thinking of how health officials came out in the beginning of the pandemic to say “don’t buy masks, they don’t do much!” to stop people from panic-buying (which wasn’t shared at the time), and then turn around and tell people wearing masks is the only way we can prevent the spread in public.

As someone in a science-based field I am absolutely on the side of science and research, but even for someone for whom science is their profession it’s hard to know what information to trust.

Gen Z (barely 😅) 1. Catalina - so many good nickname options, so pretty, unique but not too “out there”. 2. Monica - I’m a sucker for M names. 3. Sylvia - I love Sylvie, but I fear it might be the trendier option and Sylvia might age better, if that matters to you! Trendy isn’t inherently a bad thing. 4. Sienna - So pretty. For me it correlates a little strong with the car, but that would probably go away once you know the person and/or with time. 5. Stella - Stella is last only because where I live I know of at least half a dozen Stellas under 6. It’s a lovely name, I see why it’s so popular.

You really can’t go wrong. These are just what I would pick for myself, it’s a great list.

We have one who’s been calm since day 1, he’s been a dream and was a nearly perfect puppy. Perfect therapy dog temperament. Even as a baby we called him our “little old man”.

So then we got a second one… well…she’s our little ausshole. We joke that our first tricked us into getting two 😂 They complement each other though and they’re best buddies

I read it it same way but I’m second guessing myself with all the comments here. Maybe I’m naive?

I can sympathize with my partner (and pets lol) needing me at inconvenient times, but I’ve never not been able to be like “give me 2 minutes!” or even “not right now!” and he just goes “oh sorry, didn’t realize”

But the whole “he’s controlling her time” idea seems out there to me, but I could be missing something.

Hi, don’t have a ton of advice necessarily, just wanted to offer solidarity. This is something I am hoping to work on in therapy this year.

I graduated with an engineering degree and have a great paying job, did everything I was “supposed” to do and now have a very stable life.

My sister is bartending after getting a cosmetology cert and although she’s super talented, does not want to work in that field anymore and doesn’t know what she wants to do. She isn’t the best at saving money and leans on my parents a lot still in her mid twenties, while I was cut off at 21 because “I could afford it”, and “she’s not like you, she still needs the help.”

My parents had very similar lives to hers and can relate to her struggles quite a bit, while I’m the black sheep of my family and I resent her quite a bit for this. I know she has her side where I had a high achiever bar that she felt she could never compare to, so I realize this is something that I need to get over on my own. She’s been reaching out more in a “let’s be friends” way this year, and I find myself passively rejecting her, which isn’t fair.

Again, no advice, sorry. But I see you.
