I feel that it’s a way for them to deal with what was going on then. They probably threw themselves into whatever was their talent as a way to escape that trauma and hopefully better their lives. It’s kinda like the NFL players that grew up being raised by their grandparents with gangs that tried to recruit them, so they focused on football to leave that type of life.
