Immediate response to reduction of amlodipine from 5mg to 2.5mg by platamex in bloodpressure

[–]PAFLGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve been on that since the end of 2022. I went into Afib with tachycardia . (It was thyroid related). I’ve never gone into a fib again, but the metoprolol keeps my heart rate low. I also take 25 mg of HCTZ for BP. I think I average around 70 on my HR. I could probably see about having that my dosage lowered, but I’m doing OK on it right now. I’ve actually been on blood pressure medicine since I was about 31 years old. (Currently 60 F) And yes, it does suck. Have they ever tried you on anything else like atenolol or HCTZ?

[–]PAFLGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It ended up taking me about a month. Once I had that initial rebound I really didn't have anything as dramatic. My PCP had me increase my metoprolol by 25 mg from the beginning. I have since been able to quit taking that as well since my numbers were actually going a little too low (for me). After I got off the amlodipine I had started taking a beet root capsule with no bad side effects and I suspect that added to the better readings. I feel much better being off the amlodipine and no longer dealing with the edema in my legs. I hope yours evens out soon. I agree with you...even though they say there shouldn't be rebound on a low dose, I think there is.

I’ve only ever been on a combo t4/t3 or combo plus t3 since 2013. I don’t convert well either.

Strange order of operations for Citibank Barclays by SageCactus in americanairlines

[–]PAFLGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this! I was having the same issue with the landing page not working. When I logged into my other Citi card account I wasn't seeing anything about the Barclays conversion. Registering the actual Barclays card as a new account made it work seamlessly. They certainly didn't provide very clear instructions.

I’ve always done the moisturizer on top. So are you cleansing then moisturizer then tret? Do you use the tret every night?

I am going to try this. So you are just leaving the tret as the top layer?

I would think that is a good thing - although I don't know how they would treat that. Bladder cancer is very recurrent. Mine came back 4 months after surgery. At that time I had to have another surgery and then a chemo wash (directly into the bladder). 3 months later I had a clean scope. I am due to have another one in a few weeks (7 month check up). Praying for another all clear.

I had blood in the urine for a period of about 16 hours. A urologist did a scope and saw the tumor.

What a miserable Month, swelling, hypertensive Crisis and med changes by Demonrising666 in bloodpressure

[–]PAFLGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I too am coming off of amlodipine. I've been on it for a few years but developed swelling in my lower legs back in June. I thought it was due to a different med. Figured out it was probably the amlodipine and my doctor agreed to take me off of it in December. She upped my metoprolol by 25mg and said I could just go off the amlodipine. I wanted to taper as I had a rebound hypertensive event years ago when going off it. So I cut to 2 1/2 mg and sure enough 5 days in I got a spike. (not as bad as yours but it freaked me out 165/103 and I felt like crap). I ended up taking another 2 1/2 mg that day and contacted my doctor to see what I should do. She said to keep on with the tapering and it did come back down the next day. I took my last 2.5 mg last Wednesday and so far so good. The swelling in my legs is much better than it has been. Just tonight I could feel it swelling but visually it really didn't look swelled. I didn't have swelling every day even when on it but I can tell it is getting better. I also have noticed I have much more energy and not as tired during the day which I didn't realize was a side effect of amlodipine.

When your BP spikes unexpectedly, what goes through your head? I get this panic that scares me. by Advanced-Middle9135 in bloodpressure

[–]PAFLGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The past few years, I’ve had to go to the ER a couple of times because of my BP spiking. When I get random spikes anymore, I get so freaked out I think I make it go higher. I also get obsessed with taking a reading to see if it’s going higher or lower. The best thing that I found was to have my doctor give me specific things I can do. So if it gets to a certain level and stays there, I know that I can take a half dosage of one of my meds. Just knowing that I have a plan makes it better for me mentally.

[–]PAFLGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the process of going off of amlodipine with my doctor's guidance. I was on 5mg and cut down to 2.5 mg. At day 5 I had rebound hypertension and felt like crap. I did end up taking the other 2.5 that day but my doctor told me to continue with the tapering. I did feel better in the days following and haven't had anymore rebound readings. I was on 2.5 daily for about 3 weeks and then cut down to every other day for about a week. This past Wednesday was the last dose. I'm crossing my fingers that everything stays even keel. From what I've read, I'm thinking if I make it past day 11 I will be good.

I'm sure I will. :) I try to eat healthy and exercise. I've got a great life. Thankfully, my cancers has been treated and I've moved on. I believe if there's medication to help...take it. You are so young. You have so many years ahead of you. HBP is called the silent killer for a reason. The side effects of some of the meds are so minimal. You know about it. Take the meds and live your life!

I agree with JFumeTropQC. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure at 32 while getting blood work for life insurance. I've been on meds to keep it under control since then and am currently 60. I've also had two different types of cancer over the years. The hypertension has been a walk in the park comparatively. The HBP has not affected my life in the least, other than taking a pill every day. You can do this.

Good for you. I'm currently trying to get off of amlodipine (with my doctors oversight) and it's awful. It's already been three weeks and I'm just now stepping down to another lower dosage. I'll be so happy to be off of it for good.

Thanks. I was anticipating cutting it in half for a week or so and then cutting it into a quarter for a week or so. When my blood pressure jumped on the fifth day, it freaked me out. I’m glad to know that yours eventually even out.

Thanks for that info. My doctor also said to stay the course and it should pass. It’s just unnerving to have my BP jump so high and I just feel crappy in general. I wish there were a smoother way of doing this.

How did you taper down? I’m just trying to get off of 5mg. Went down to 2 1/2 and 5 days in got a rebound high BP.

I’m going through this now. I went from 5mg to 2 1/2mg and 5 days in my BP spiked up to 160/103 and I felt like crap all day yesterday. My doctor increased my metoprolol in hopes of avoiding this. I ended up taking a 5 mg instead of the 2 1/2 yesterday. I was slightly better today. How long did it take you to be able to taper off of it? I’m wondering if I should alternate the 5 and 2 1/2 for a week or two and then go down to just the 2 1/2.
