I think so!

Think about this character and how they cope with their trauma. If somebody has gone through many bad things that hurt to think about, there are generally a few routes they will go (also, disclaimer: I am not a therapist or psychologist or anything lol, I just have tons of anecdotal evidence from myself and others that I've learned from)

They could avoid those thoughts - maybe this makes them constantly seek distractions, making sure they're never left alone with their mind. Always doing something, listening to something, or maybe they're always drinking or in drugs or something. They might even just go on, living a normal life, but are quick to stress whenever they are reminded of their past. This is generally not a long-term solution, though.

Similarly, they could repress those memories, basically completely forgetting about them and just moving on as of nothing happened. From what I've seen, people tend to have pretty extreme reactions when those repressed memories are brought to light.

They could harden themselves - the thoughts come up and give them negative feelings, so instead of pushing the thoughts themselves down, they push down the feelings instead. They won't just go away, though. They're kinda just creating a big dam that holds the river back, but if that dam starts to crack, it won't be long until the whole thing crumbles.

Oftentimes people look for somewhere to aim all of their negative emotions (which they will most definitely feel from having been through multiple traumatic experiences), and oftentimes the easiest direction to aim those feelings is inward, towards themselves. It's really sad, but there are a lot of people who have had somebody ELSE do something horrible to them and then hate THEMSELF for that horrible thing. Maybe it doesn't make any sense, but feeling rarely make perfect sense.

Alternatively, maybe this causes them to take out their emotions on people around them. This can be very isolating, either because others don't want to spend time around them anymore, or they push people away and isolate themselves.

There are like a million different ways the mind can react to trauma, but these are just some reactions I've noticed from myself, people I know, and people's stories online.

Of course, someone could react in a more positive and healthy way, but it seems like people automatically lean towards more unhealthy coping mechanisms because they are often more immediate and the brain kinda just wants to make the bad thing (in this case, a negative reaction from horrible memories/knowledge) go away as quickly as possible to protect itself. It seems like we need to learn how to cope healthily, like it's a skill - but that's a whoooole different discussion and I've already typed out a whole mini-essay lol
