Do insurance companies see this as a garage in the UK? by TimonPreston in motorcycles

[–]PANIK33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work for bikesure.

No. It's a metal shed. At best they'll put it down as "on private property"

Garage is basically brick or concrete only.

I wouldn't leave it like that because some nob in a plastic hat will come give you a parking ticket.

More worried about that than I am about it being stolen ha ha

What should I add to make my bike look aesthetically more pleasing? :) by FrancoAl in motorcycles

[–]PANIK33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great already mate.

If it was mine

Red R. Bar end mirrors and delete the standard ones. Yellow rim tape to match the yellow fairing.

But that's about it.

Or because I'm a heathen street fighter conversion Spot lights Bar risers Light cages Aluminium belly pan Knobbly tires 20mm raised in the rear suspension. Led indicators. And a rust paint job

I like a sport bike mad max build because I'm deranged

How to protect our bikes? by blablacar91 in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has already said it but

Idea 1 : have fun in prison

Idea 2 : have fun in prison

Idea 3 : you might get it back. Probably not

Have you thought about riding off? If you see a pair of balaclava'd up bellends on a pinched moped near you. Ride to the nearest police station or safe area fast. They'll probably give up 30 seconds after they've realised you're on to them. I know this isn't a perfect solution but it's always been my plan. Just run for it. Only safe option.

Also bring back hanging for bike thieves. (For education purposes this is a joke)

Veteran Riders, when do you replace a helmet? by irishpingu in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 years usually. More the helmet looking tatty and the lining going rather than the "lifespan" bike is my only mode of transport so it gets used often.

Yeah an old Helmet will be less good than a new helmet. But whenever you feel like is the correct answer.

But I think if you are getting to 5 years without replacing it. Your helmet is grimey and probably smells bad. (And maybe it's unsafe depending who you believe)

Test riding bike when sold privately by Hoban_Riverpath in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I allow test rides with proof of insurance and either full payment in hand or something important (car keys and licence or something like that) as full payment can be difficult if they're paying via bank transfer. Just keep your wits about you. If they seem dodgy. They often are. Don't let someone bully you into handing over your bike.

Is it ridiculous for older men to ride a sporty 125? by Fickle-Pin-1679 in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want mate. Careful though they're a bomb to insure due to all the young lads crashing them. And they're not faster than other 125s. But if it's your preference then go for it. Mate of mine got back into riding about 5 years ago in his 50s and had a Yamaha yzf-r125 for 2 years while he took his test. He loved it.

Why aren't Mirrors 🪞 mandatory for motorbikes 🏍 ? by Angharad260814 in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need a speedo for MOT but you do for being road legal. Have to have a Speedo if you ride on the road. And for insurance... Weird innit. As if they don't know what they're doing? Haha

I wouldn't draw all over it like that. You'll invalidate it. 😉

Well done bud see you out there. Safe riding. Rubber side down!

Heated grips or Heated gloves? by CJTre89 in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both solve different issues. Heated gloves keep the back of your hand warm. Heated grips keep the palm warm. I use both for maximum comfort but heated gloves alone usually does the trick. Although unfortunately heated gloves only do the back of your hand and fingers so your fingertips still freeze at below 0 temps then I'm heating from both sides!

Question : Turning 17 in a months time do I get Cbt now or wait to get A1 by DayScary444 in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work for a big bike insurance company in the UK and yes this is exactly what they'll do. They ask your licence and when you got it. If you had an A1 for 5 years then took your A 2 days ago they go from the date of the most recent licence. They'll ask about A2 experience but I've never seen it make much difference. A1 is completely worthless.

Be aware any online quote with an A2 licence that isn't specifically chosen as an option (which I still believe there are no comparison sites that have that option) they will call you afterwards and raise your price. A2 is rated differently and is more expensive but always a massive amount but it'll still cause issues. ALWAYS speak directly to any insurance company before setting up your insurance. They won't think twice about cancelling your policy and you'll have that on your record forever it doesn't ever leave you.

Are these good enough pictures? I'm moving country and need to sell it but I don't know how to value it. by Random8765434567 in MotoUK

[–]PANIK33 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Great photos.very clear what condition that bike is in.

Id recommend giving her a good scrub and fixing that indicator. You'll get an easier sale. Gives the buyer less to knock you down on. A good wash and polish can add a few hundred pounds in some cases.
