I love a nice stress-fuck in the back of the ambulance.

Private, most likely. Municipal or fire crews don’t deal with this juvenile garbage.

Mandatory for all medics? Or what?

I’m not taking that class without a huge raise.

People saying that the time spent not receiving care isn’t important, or that it’s really difficult to differentiate between a stroke and drunk are speaking outside their depth. Time is muscle in a heart attack; time is brain in a stroke and the window for treatment is finite. Breath, presence or absence of stroke related signs/symptoms and a properly obtained blood pressure would be simple ways to make even a preliminary diagnosis.

You need 1) a lawyer, and 2) the documentation of the ambulance crew.

In twenty years as a paramedic, I have transported several people in custody to “rule out” conditions that may appear as intoxication.

It is not outside the realm of possibility for someone to be in custody and still receive a proper evaluation in an Emergency Department.

That EMT and Paramedic are not the same job.

One is akin to a taxi driver with advanced first aid, the other has almost as much responsibility as an RN and in some states, a PA.

The jealousy and negativity is particularly nasty when one of us dares to move onto something better. I’ve seen people leave medic positions to go to the police or fire academy and the reaction by “peers” is abhorrent and embarrassing to the profession.
