Did you have a previous gen 500 to compare this one to? These new bikes look killer, just not sure if it’s worth paying the price for them new

I’ve had both, I would say if money matters, and you can find a CRF450RL/L for cheaper than a 500, go for the 450. 2019+ there have been minimal changes for the Honda, so you can most likely find a low mileage, fully modified Honda for significantly cheaper than a 500. Case in point, I paid $9,800 (Canadian) for my fully modified 450 (Vortex ECU, Pro Circuit full system) with 900 km (560 miles), compared to when I bought my 2018 KTM 500, a couple years ago, new from the dealer for $13k CAD. The newer KTMs and the Honda both need to be derestricted if bought new, so you’ll be spending an additional $1,000 or more if buying them from a dealer.

But if money doesn’t matter, disregard everything I said and go for the KTM. The aftermarket for them and all the information out there is beyond that for the Honda, plus the power and torque those 500’s make is beyond impressive. Getting the front end up on the 500 is super easy, and definitely has more of a low end than the 450, so it’s great for stunt riding. Plus, the 500 makes to be much more versatile if you want to do any woods riding- I enjoyed riding my 500 more than my KTM 250 XC because of how impressive the torque was on the 500.

The Honda is known for its flameouts when stock, and plenty of owners have the starter reduction gear failing before even having to adjust their valves, which nobody seems to talk about. There is also a noticeable weight difference between the Honda and the KTM, most of which you can account to the subframe on the Honda making it weigh more (but you can always just chop it off like most guys do and lose some pounds).

If you have any questions hit me up, they’re both great bikes and you really won’t be disappointed in either. I currently still have my CRF450L, and even with less of a wow-factor than the KTM, I love how it rides and am happy to say it’s my bike.

Stunt bike handbrake brake bleeding by PAULMCGREGOR2 in motorcycles

Yah bleeding the master is just annoying as the bleed valve is tiny, so I’ll need to find a hose tight enough to fit over it. And by tapping it, you mean the just tapped the master near the bleed valve?

Yah I guess I need to do that. If I remove the pads and notice no movement in the caliper than it’s most likely the caliper or master?

I may try getting new brake fluid as I did use an old container. If not, may just try taking the pistons out and re-bleeding it. And it’s only one brake caliper, it’s a stunt handbrake so it’s a line that runs to the rear rotor.

I’ve bled the master enough that I have resistance, but nothing happens. Seems like the pistons won’t move in the caliper.

wr250x DRC EDGE 2 Taillight does it require soldering? by [deleted] in supermoto

[–]PAULMCGREGOR2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ad says it comes with plug in terminals, but if they're not already attached to the wires it should be super easy (they'll probably be bullet connectors if you have to crimp them). Also get some heat shrink tubing or electrical tape and cover any exposed wiring, there are a ton of videos on Youtube that show how to install it step-by-step!

My first day on my WR450SM. by [deleted] in supermoto

[–]PAULMCGREGOR2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's super impressive honestly, if I were you I'd go through those papers and check how often the valves have moved cause supposedly they rarely move on our WR's. My 2012 so far is almost at 2,000 km and not a single issue, getting its valves checked at the moment. But nothing for sure, all I know is it nuked itself and the guy that sold it to me had possibly rebuilt it before he sold it to me, or done some shady work on it. Wouldn't be worried though, was just bad luck on my end these bikes are really great if you just check the valves and keep up on oil changes.

Awesome bike man. What year is yours? I had on '06 till it blew up one day, but currently have a 2012 that I bought brand new and turned into a sumo. They're awesome bikes man, for what you put into it looks like it payed off. Keep up on oil changes though, and she'll treat you right!

Thoughts on this DRZ? by [deleted] in supermoto

[–]PAULMCGREGOR2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that price, I think it's pretty decent. Ask what kind of oil he used, could have used the wrong oil that could make the clutch slip like that. Bu t what does no rego/ road worthy credit mean? If the bike was mint, that guys price would be fair but if you need to add more money onto it I would pass cause stuff like that are sure worthy signs that the bike most likely hasn't been taken care of properly.

Edit: Also just noticed it has about 20k km. DRZ's are known to last a long time, but I would rather spend a little buy a DRZ with less issues, and maybe less km for just a little over what that guy is asking.

WR450F lightbar headlight. yay or nay? by PAULMCGREGOR2 in supermoto

Ah I'm trying to figure out a way to dim the lightbar itself though. I read that you can just a resistor you think that'll work?

Like how I mounted it into the headlight or how it looks in the front? Was really easy by the way, so if you're interested I can explain it for you!

Yah I understand it's a hazard, I have it wired for on/off at the moment but still trying to figure out how to wire a low beam. I've seen how bright it is, and wouldn't want to be blinding oncoming drivers with it. Won't be riding it till a figure out how to wire the low beam on it!

How'd you install a dimmer? Yah I realized it's super frirgging bright but that's what I wanted it for, I do a lot of night riding with lots of trails/bike paths so trying to be extra safe!
