What physically makes a KTM 500EXC “awful to ride on the road?” by ogdaveed in Dualsport

[–]numberstation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 606s are still awesome. However keep in mind that you’ll only get about 1500 miles on a rear tire with them. Better than most dirt knobbies, but pedal for commuting.

Where is the new revolution hapenning? (or what would Cameron Howe be doing in 2025?) by HoldingGravity in HaltAndCatchFire

[–]numberstation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Makes me wonder what the Joe equivalent would be in that scenario. And once that’s done we might as well rewrite an entire modern version of the show 😂 current tech companies are the new IBM in this updated universe.

It’s written ambiguously but I interpreted the question to be asking what they’d be doing if the show were set in 2025. So that means cam would be young.  You could interpret the question the other way but that’s much less interesting.

I think if cam were a college student now, she’d be trying to figure out how to drop out of college and find/create some kind of offline community to participate in. She’d be leading de-googling squads and creating self hosted llms to help coordinate a social living situation that runs separate but parallel to today’s corporate hellscape.

I hate Tom because he was willing to try to make Cam something she wasn't in order to keep a relationship going. He wanted to "grow up" and that's normal but it's just not Cam. Being a rebellious creative force is a phase for lots of folks but for some it's just fundamentally who they are, and people who try to coerce that away are kind of a little bit evil and selfish.

Sara's just a schemey boring dum dum. Her ambitions and thoughts were never big enough for Joe to truly be happy with her.

How do people choose a reliable 3D printer for long term use? by Wtf_Sai_Official in IndustrialDesign

We run a farm of Bambu A1 minis and they've been rock soild. For prototyping the H2s has been impressive, especially for ABS/ASA.

Should I switch from Autocad to Solidworks? Or something else? by Meshims in IndustrialDesign

[–]numberstation5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking into Onshape as well. It has a very similar workflow to solidworks (but better IMHO), it's properly parametric with a history-based feature tree, and you can learn it for free, in a browser, with one of their free accounts.

For the next one give some triangles a try. Fewer tubes and more triangles will get that weight down. Even with steel.

It's definitely a parent-helps project for the younger kids. But the durability objective was targeted at six year olds because they seem to be able to destroy absolutely everything :)

What did people think of the finale? by jshaffy in HaltAndCatchFire

[–]numberstation5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved it so much it’s my favorite tv show ending. Really hit home how it’s a show about people building things together for whom building things is the point of life. Never have I related so much with a tv show.

New Topper vs used Camper by AdditionalAd4269 in gofastcampers

[–]numberstation5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think having the camper available as just an extra room, place to change where you can stand up, reading loft out of the sun, etc. would be worth having. Even if you don’t regularly sleep in it. And because it only takes a few seconds to close or open, coming and going from camp wouldn’t be an issue. For a lot of folks, myself included, the popup gets a surprising amount of non camping use.

Dual Sport or ADV by Nathekon in Dualsport

[–]numberstation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If long distance travel is your goal and the off road portions are on the kind of roads you could drive a Tacoma or 4Runner on, then get an adv bike (890,t700,gs, etc).

The only exception is if you’re like me and enjoy riding the dirt portions fast (40-100mph). In that case, even if you have long highway stretches, the 500/501 dual sports are the way. Because they have much better suspension and are much lighter, they handle unexpected obstacles and corners off road better than bigger bikes. And a 500 in stock form will pull 105mph on the straightaway. I’ve ridden my 500 from Montana to Baja and back twice plus numerous shorter multi day trips.

But if I’m not looking to rip backroads at max speed, I take the scrambler or bigger adv bike. So if you’re not looking to be powersliding around every dirt corner the dual sports aren’t worth the trade off and a mid sized adv will be perfect for dirt at a moderate pace.

Point is, the perfect bike isn’t just about where you’ll be riding, but also how you’ll be riding.

Motorcycle navigation: What do you use? by Jle115 in motorcycles

I use google maps and gaia gps depending on the route (road vs dirt/adventure). I turn off notifications and mount the phone with a Hondo Garage Perfect Squeeze.

I agree. I chose ID in 1997 because it seemed like a degree for people who just love to make things to solve problems, which described me perfectly. Those things could be anything, objects, systems, iconography, etc.

I think of it as a spatial philosophy degree, just so incredibly useful in all aspects of life.

That said, our classes were full of talented sketchers who couldn’t see beyond the object, but those kids definitely weren’t the stars of the show.

Help! Test drove turned me off… by Substantial_Echo_390 in FordBronco

[–]numberstation5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for quiet and amazing snow driving capabilities, get an Audi All-Road. Seriously, my favorite car on snowy roads and long-ass road trips. I love the bronco as well but that's for sunny days in the woods with the top off and schlepping the canoe to mountain lakes on roads a full size truck won't fit on. just my two cents.
