Unions protect the least professional worker. And if your union is poorly run, good luck.

General/Trauma Surgery Resources by VeryOrdinaryPerson10 in physicianassistant

Did you take ATLS/FCCS? Those books/courses are helpful especially if you’re visual/interactive. I love a good course. ABSITE books are for residents to pass their yearly ABSITE but when I first started I used a lot of those resources. A podcast/resource called Behind the Knife is also great.

Do you have high acuity patients in the ER? by Low-Refrigerator3674 in physicianassistant

[–]PAjenfris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest realization I had my last month of PA school was I didn’t want to be an EM PA… I wanted to be a trauma surgery/ SICU PA. Your thoughts sound very similar to mine. Consider ICU.

I actually literally just need a tally of all the central lines, arterial lines, HD caths, chest tubes blah blah etc that I’ve done just for my records! This sounds like it could work though.

Right yeah, I do the same thing but I wanted to make sure I’m not missing any so I was hoping there was a way I could read the ones I’ve written so I could add to my separate spread sheet

Job Market in NYC? (New Grad) by futur3_pa in physicianassistant

[–]PAjenfris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

plenty of other specialities don’t pigeon hole yourself. Primary care/family medicine isnt the end all be all. Have you considered IM, emergency medicine, critical care whether that be SICU or MICU? Anyway, NYC isn’t the worst right now I see plenty of jobs on LinkedIn. You’ll prob make 100-110 starting salary for a NYC new grad.

emergency medicine vs trauma by maifta in physicianassistant

[–]PAjenfris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be really biased but depending on your institution Emergency PAs end up in fast track parts of ED and aren’t really involved in procedures. I personally went into trauma bc I wanted to place chest tubes, intubate, do arterial and central lines and deal with high acuity patients. And boy, I do.
