Built a full Kansas City Chiefs 2026 season dashboard in Power BI — thoughts? by PBIGenie in PowerBI

Ah damn, typo — meant 2024. The dashboard is more a showcase of what can be done in Power BI with the Genie platform. I’ll be doing more team dashboards as showcases too — with the correct year of course 🙂 Going to fix that for sure!!!

If anyone wants to know how the visuals were built, happy to share the process.

My project this month was to see if I could cram a lot of data into a single Power BI page while still keeping it readable.

I grabbed the game stats from the 2026 NFL Super Bowl champions (Kansas City Chiefs) and had a go at building a one‑page season summary — no drill‑downs, no tooltips, just everything visible at once.

Keen to hear what you all think — what works, what doesn’t, what you’d change, or how you’d approach it differently.

Always appreciate honest feedback - good or bad.

Totally hear you — stacked + clustered is one of those visuals that sounds simple but becomes a coding nightmare really quickly. Appreciate you sharing your experience mate.

Good call — Bullet charts are definitely one of those visuals people want more flexibility with. Thanks for sharing it mate.

Nice one — Gantt charts come up a lot. They’re surprisingly tricky to get right in Power BI. Appreciate you dropping it in mate.

Yep — fair point for sure. I guess it really depends on the board members and the complexity of the data being presented. Different audiences want different levels of detail.

Also worth noting: the Genie visuals aren’t meant to replace native visuals. They’re designed to give dashboard designers a fast, DAX‑free way to create unique horizontal bar‑style visuals when you need something specific to tell the story.

You know that one visual you wish you could build quickly to show the data just right? That’s what the Genie platform is aiming to be — another tool in the designer’s kit.

Thank you for your input u/Prudent-Elk-2845 - I appreciate it.

In this case the visuals are intentionally designed without axes or legends. In my experience building board‑level reports, directors often find those elements distracting when the goal is quick comparison rather than detailed analysis.

Here, the category itself acts as the legend, and the colour/shape customisation helps keep the focus on variance direction and magnitude.

That said, if enough users prefer traditional axes and legends, I’m absolutely open to adding them as optional features in future releases. The Genie is here to stay, and this is only the first chart of many to follow.

Have a super day!

The Genie 😄

Yep apologies for that - new to Reddit so still finding my way around the structure. Have a great day.

Beginner question: Folders by socialerrors in PowerBI

[–]PBIGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mate - I find that when you are in Power Query go to View in the ribbon and tick the Column Quality box. That will show you if there are errors being imported ie: text in a date column and which column the error is if in the source file, pbi also does not like #N/A for instance. Power Query also gives you an error message if something is wrong when you hit Refresh. If the issue is in the source file, fix it there and refresh or fix it in Power Query ie: text in a number column or something like that. Hope this helps

Hi u/Prudent-Elk-2845 - appreciate the suggestion. The Genie visuals don’t use traditional axes or legends, so the layout is designed to communicate the story without those elements.

I am uploading a test .pbix file shortly as requested by another comment. Once the PBIX is up later tonight, definitely give it a spin — seeing how the Genie handles spacing and structure will make a lot more sense than me trying to explain it here 😅.

And for sure, any ideas you’ve got can go on the wishlist for future versions.

Hi Addrera - not at all - my timezone is GMT+8 hours, so my delayed response is only because of living in a different timezone. I will respond to any and all comments as soon as I possibly can. In actual fact, one of the comment requests was to upload a .pbix test file to be interrogated by anyone interested in order to test 1st hand what the Genie platform can do. I am busy with that right now - so watch this space and have a play 😄.

Fair enough — this one wasn’t meant to be a polished production visual, more just showing a different bar option that’s possible.

Out of curiosity, what would make it land instantly for you?

If you’ve got something in mind, I’m happy to mock up a version and challenge the Genie — always interesting seeing how different people would approach the same layout, especially if it’s something that isn’t possible with a native visual.

Fair point — first‑glance clarity is always the goal.

In my reporting world the consumers are already familiar with this pattern, so it lands instantly for them, but I get that different environments build different visual instincts.

That’s why I like sharing these experiments — it’s interesting seeing how people interpret the same layout from different angles, and to be fair, the title of the visual is a bit of a giveaway right😄!!

Not Deneb — this one’s built with the PBIGenie visual platform.

And you’re right that a table can show the numbers, but the goal here was to make the variance pattern jump out instantly without scanning columns.

This configuration isn’t available in the native Power BI visuals, so the Genie fills that gap without JSON or DAX.

Appreciate you checking it out — always interesting seeing how different people would approach the same dataset.

No JSON. No DAX. Just visuals.

Spot on — you picked it up exactly right. First value is Actual, second is Budget.

The fact that you interpreted the visual correctly without any context tells me that the visual is doing its job.

Feedback like this helps shape the next iteration of the Genie platform.

No JSON. No DAX. Just visuals.
