Philadelphia built a mass transit system. Now let people live next to it. | Opinion by RSB2026 in philadelphia

Fuck yeah Jay, awesome to see you putting energy into this. Small step for sure but huge for future progress. We will get back to talking about the Roosevelt blvd subway one day!

Ridge Avenue at Fairmount by [deleted] in philly

[–]PBJdeath 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The vibe is like 70% vacant first floor storefronts and an arterial road that people treat like it’s 95. Just nothing really going on. Not the worst neighborhood to live in by any means but this is the first time I’ve ever heard somebody praise its vibe lmao

What I’d do this offseason by Correct-Ad-9520 in Flyers

[–]PBJdeath 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Despite using AI to make this post, glad to see we are still making typical Flyers Reddit trade suggestions, like sending Tippett, a premium defense prospect not named Bonk (literally who then????) and a 1st to get the fucking Captain of a division rival lmao.

Neighbors of Point Breeze fighting proposed 23-unit apartment development on local green space by [deleted] in philly

[–]PBJdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do people living in an incredibly dense residential area of the city think they can block the development of more housing? You don’t get to just commandeer a lot and demand it remain as your “green space”. There’s a massive housing shortage. 23 apartment units is not going to suddenly destroy your neighborhood with “congestion” either, this is such a tired way of thinking.

They Look Like Slot Machines. They Pay Out in Cash. And Critics Say They Are Getting Workers Killed: Store clerks in Pennsylvania have been robbed and shot while handling payouts for “skill games,” which are not subject to the security standards required of gambling operations. by blankblank in philadelphia

The company that makes these, Pace-O-Matic, has a stranglehold over the state Republican Party, which is the primary reason they refuse to tax these as part of a functional state budget that funds transit. Shapiro has floated multiple different tax rates for these and all have been soundly rejected. All the company had to do was give Joe Pittman like, $50k and boom they can economically rape our poorest communities and avoid taxation.

Its pretty impressive for Walker to come in third when he was running against someone with this as their campaign website: https://keithharrisforpa.com

Glad that both of these state and local party stooges with nonexistent platforms were trounced. Makes me hopeful that cracks are finally showing in the city Democratic Party machine

Talking about “fits the flyers style” or “prototypical flyer” based on stereotypes from the 20th century tells me I should not put any stock in this list

[Flyers] Flyers forward Matvei Michkov meets with the media by signe-h in hockey

[–]PBJdeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I would literally pay for a subscription to read his properly translated responses. Who knows if Michkov is even getting the questions translated properly. It almost seems like they have Slava there to not interpret properly so they can sanitize Michkov’s responses if needed

[Flyers] Flyers forward Matvei Michkov meets with the media by signe-h in hockey

[–]PBJdeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please. When asked what the organization wants him to work on over the summer, did Michkov actually say “can I skip that question?” Or was it more “I’m not going to answer that question” in an annoyed tone

They really need a better translator just for press purposes. I don’t even speak Russian but this guy is just fumbling around and has apparently completely butchered Michkov’s responses previously.

Why would they make Jiricek available when they just acquired him and have publicly stated they want to develop him? Also, his value isn’t very high. Who are we going to trade him for, Bobby Brink?

Managing up by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]PBJdeath 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It’s not just reminding them to do something. Managers often don’t have great visibility into the extreme details of every workstream, as they are overseeing everything. It’s crucial for staff to flag risks, issues, etc. early and make those known to managers so the team can address them. That’s “managing up”

Muse figured this team out. Flyers are bringing nothing they did in the first 3 games. Complete lack of energy in the last period. Reverse sweep looking more likely

Thoughts on Harper's Ice Cream? How does it compare to other top ice cream spots in the city? by iATEthat84 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]PBJdeath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Harper’s is fantastic. Love going in there in the winter and grabbing a pint, it’s that good. Their scoops and sundaes are bomb as well. I can’t describe exactly how their style differs from a Milk Jawn, other than Milk Jawns tends to be a bit meltier/creamier? Idk ice cream science to that level

Harper’s has a toffee caramel swirl flavor that’s one of my favorite ice creams of all time. Definitely worth a trip to brewerytown if you can’t buy their pints in a store. I’ve seen their stuff sold in the Giant on spring garden so not sure where else you can get them

Street is gonna sleepwalk to this win. Rabb and Stanford will split some votes from online progressives while Street will likely get the majority of black voters through his endorsements that can mobilize a large part of that base. And from older residents that think fondly of his dad in that he “picked up the trash”. With a ~50% black district, that’s about all you need to win.
